Nearly 250k miles and still runs like a champ!

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 244,000

Pros: "Durability, Dependability, Great MPG"

Cons: "Plastic pieces inside the car are cheap and break"

"I'm the second owner of this car. I purchased it in 2002 with 37k miles on it. It now has 244k and I can still spin its tires! It still runs on the ORIGINAL CLUTCH and has never had any engine repair. We consistently still get 32mpg! The only negative thing I have to say about this car is that all of the little knobs and details in the car are made with cheap plastic and much of it has since broken off. Things like the cup holder have broken and replaced twice. The center console has also broken. Awesome car. We're just now replacing it with a slightly newer version we love it so much. Sad to see it go."

Okay car

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 153,000

Pros: "Good mpg, fun to drive"

Cons: "Too small, electrical issues, transmissioproblems"

"Decent car with a 23 mpg average. At 100k I had to replace the pump which is normal. It hesitates when I put it in reverse and recently found out the transmission is leaking fluid. It also leaks oil. The heated seat on the drivers side stopped working. Sometimes the lights inside the car don't work. Usually the ones in the front. Beside those electrical issues and it leaking transmission fluid it has been a pretty good car I bought it with 86k miles most of the miles I put on it were highway. It's fun to drive. It has good brakes the steering is good too. It's pretty small inside which is why I'm getting rid of it. I had a baby and there's no room for all of our stuff. And if I go shopping it's nearly impossible to fit everything inside. The trunk only has room for the stroller."

Great economical car

Pros: "gas saver, easy handling, fun to drive"

Cons: "nay on stick shift and limited rear seat space"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 8

"Great economical car, good handling, comfortable ride. I use it for my 20 mile commute to work and errands. I have even taken it on 800 mile vacation trips and got 33 mph on the freeway."

3 jETTA S LATER AND STILL GETTING ANOTHER

Pros: "I have loved driving my bright red sporty car"

Cons: "My tape deck quit 4 years ago cd quit last wk."

"i Have owned my present Jetta for 10 years, it was a lease car and had 47,000 when i got it. It has gone over the 250,000 goal I had set to get from it. The condition is still in full driving order with some rust on the trunk area only. I am purchasing another leased Jetta with fewer miles but 6 years old in very good shape, and expect to drive it another 10 years."

Beware - 2000 Jetta GLX

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 47,250

Pros: "Fun car to drive, has zip, leather/heated seats"

Cons: "breaks down too much! electronics are spotty"

"I bought my 2000 Jetta GLX manual (used) just over a year ago. I got it from a family member who took good care of it. Just after a month of having the car, the a/c compressor went out. It made a horrific grinding noise while driving. I've also had to replace the computer chip in the driver's side door. One day the window decided not to open and the rear view mirror control started to lock and unlock the doors. My moon roof likes to open on it's own from time to time as well. Just recently, the car overheated. Found out that the thermostat casing had a crack and the water pump had broken. My mechanic also discovered that the oil that was put into the car was the wrong kind. (Most shops don't know anything about VW cars...even the ones that work on imports). Now I have come to find out that my timing chain is bad because the oil pressure has screwed up a tension rod. There was also some sort of clip that broke inside the manual gear shift. I couldn't go in reverse or really use any gear other than 3rd. I've put too much money into this car for what it is worth. This thing has been a total Lemon. Use caution when purchasing this vehicle. It's fun to drive around town but it's been into the shop every other month it seems."

She's Been a Good Ride!

I owned and sold this car
Reason: Wanted newer car - My approximate mileage is 115,000

Pros: "Handling, Tape Deck, Location of cupholders"

Cons: "4-cyl can be sluggish"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I have enjoyed my Jetta Wagon. Gas mileage is good. Handling is excellent. Not as peppy as I'd like, but she is only a 4-cylinder. Overall, great car. Minor repairs needed (totalling $1000 in 3-yrs ownership). I would recommend this car. Sold only because I'm upgrading to a 2012 Passat."
