Pros: "Great on gas, fun to drive, great price"

Cons: "back seats are small so fits about 4 vs 5"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"This was my first car I've ever gotten and boy was it a catch! I feel like no other car can beat this. It's diesel so it will last forever, its terrific on gas about 30-40 mpg and its only a 4 cyl so it cost about $20-$25 bucks to fill it up,it looks sweet, its great to drive because its small and you can whip right into a parking space without a hassle."

Pros: "Blast to drive, 15+ years in family"

Cons: "Cupholders in way of radio, antifreeze leak, small"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9

"My dad bought the VW Jetta GLS V6 brand new for my older sister with the plan that she make the car payments and pay him back the down payment later. Well fast forward 18 months and my sister gets a job in Southern California and will get a company car provided to her. So she just "gave" my dad back the Jetta and went to California. My parents tried to sell it but selling a $17k car privately is very difficult. We ended up keeping the car as a special occasion car since my parents had cars already, my brother already had a car, and I couldn't drive for another 3 years. Fast forward to 2016, we STILL have this car and everyone in my family has had this car for an extended period of time. From 2001-02 older sister, 2002-08 my mom, 2008-2010 me, 2010-2011 older brother, 2011-present my dad. This car has taken abuse from all of us and still lives on. My brother is a destroyer of cars. He's destroyed 7 cars over the last 15 years (literally, these 7 cars are not on the road anymore) but the Jetta lasted through him. When I would borrow it from my mom when I was in high school I would love to show off how nice it was. This car can MOVE. The V6 is too big to be in this car and I would turbo around with my friends just jamming to the Monsoon Sound System that came with the car and the sunroof open. When the car was mine for a bit in college I got lots of compliments from friends about how cool it was. My only issue (and my family's too) is that this car is a bit small. I know it's a compact car, but fitting any adult in the back is punishment. The trunk is big for its size and I think the trunk could have been trimmed to make more room in the backseat. The cup holder is also in a terrible spot. It's right on top of the radio and if you have the cup holder out than pushing buttons on the radio is difficult since your drink is directly in front of all the buttons. Everyone who has borrowed or rode in the car was very impressed with all the speed and acceleration it had. This car is STILL fun to drive. My dad is an aggressive driver and the Jetta takes his abuse like a champ. The car has had some issues and it did break down on me once when I was driving back to school 3 hours from home (multiple fluid leaks at same time) but after some maintenance it was back up and running. The antifreeze leak was an ongoing issue from 2008-2011 but my dad got it taken care of and the car is running just great again no issues."

"Car belonged to my son. Originally, we planned on using it as a second vehicle. However, since we don't drive much, we seldom used it as a source of transportation, depending more on our own car."

Pros: "great price pretty much good to great condition and really fun to drive"

Cons: "No Catalytic Converter"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"Great car.. Engine in great condition. Just needs a catalytic converter to pass inspection but drives perfect. No major exterior dings or rust. Just one interior problem with the door handle is broken. Has sun roof. Other than that everything is in good to great condition. Selling because I needed a bigger car for work."

"The 2002 VW Jetta with the 17" alloy rims and 1.8 turbo motorand 5-speed manual transmission is a Sportwagon that for a somewhat "boxy" wagon looks, drives and handles well and has decent to good power. Now at 14 yrs. old and 230,000 miles, I'm very pleased with the engine over it's life thus far. It doesn't burn oil and still has the original turbo on it. I've used strictly synthetic motor oil in it since I've owned it from 2007 with 65,000 miles on it."

"We have certainly gotten our money's worth out of this car. currently 125,000 + miles and going strong. It survived two teenage sons and still drives great. V6 is powerful. Love my sunroof. Not bad for a 15 yeqr old car"
