"My dad bought this car in 1999 for $9800 with 32,000 miles. It has had no engine problems and now it has been given to me with 400000 miles and still going strong. If there is one flaw with this car it is the door handles. They tend to break once in a while but not to big of a prob. I love this car and would probably never get rid of it. Just been repainted to restore it to factory looks."
"300 k miles(just breaking it in). Not many vehicles 20 yrs old have pluses as this one, especially being basic transportation. all elecltrical systems are go. Heat and air good. Stereo and speakers are good. 25-30 mpg. No discernable leaks. runs good. Pretty, not really. Luxurious, no. Comfortable, for a few blocks. Overall, good value"
"I have owned this car since 2002, It had 99,000 miles on it. I have kept up the maintence on it. In 2013 the motor went out of it because the O-rings on the coils dried out and dirt got into my motor. I put $6,000.00 into the motor. It gets 42 miles to the gallon. The interior is in excellent condition. So I have a new car. I do have to have the trunk lid, hood and top of the car painted because the clear coat has come off. A body shop is doing that for me for $450.00 I can't wait"
"I bought this car new on 3\17\1995 and have driven her only a little over 40,000 miles. Typical "little old lady" car. She needs a paint job due to the fact she was always parked in the hot, Florida sun. But she drives and handles beautifully, gets excellent mileage and is very reliable. I have never had a problem with her because she has been very well cared for. I hate to sell her now but I have no choice.
I hope whoever buys her will continue to take good care of her."
"Bought this car three years ago with approx. 117,000mi. on it. This car is amazing! I am a college student and was terrified of finding a used car that would break down quickly. This car has only left me on the side of the road once and it was due to a flat tire and I had recently taken the jack out of it while cleaning the car and forgot to put it back.I live in Central Washington State and this car has driven me across the state multiple times, made it over the pass while pushing snow with her bumper and survived everything I have put into her. She starts up every morning for me and I trust driving it anywhere.I am religious about maintenance and do all my own work on the car. It's cheap and easy to maintain, gets great gas mileage and all I have replaced on her is the EGR valve, air filter, spark plugs and wires, belts and routine maintenance stuff. Most of the stuff I replace is before it truly goes out. In about a week, I will be replacing rear brakes and the steering pump because she now squeals when its started up and around corners. (I'm thinking steering pump pulley, as I just replaced the belts.) For a college student with no money, it sure is nice to have a car that looks great and that I'm not embarrassed to drive to take friends around in. The car is small but inside it's pretty comfy and the trunk is HUGE for such a small car. If you come across one, buy it!!"
Pros: "32+ MPG, low maintenance cost, Very dependable"
Cons: "Some parts hard to find due to last year made 1999"

"I have had 5 different 2- and 4 door Toyota Tercels since 1991. All were automatics. I currently own a 1997 CE Coupe that I've had for over 5 years. It has been so dependable that I bought my daughter an almost identical 1996 coupe that was even the same color silver !!. The little 1.5L engine is ONLY rated at 93 HP, but you would never know it, because it is QUITE PEPPY and fun to drive, and still even gets 32mpg+ with over 125K miles on it now ! I never spend more than $25-30 weekly on gas commuting from the suburbs into the city to work, and I even use premium fuel ! Oil changes every 2500 mi, with routine maintenance and Timing belt change and these cars will run forever! Although the FWD is good in snow about up to 6 inches,I only use it 9 months a year as my commuter car,and I drive my newer 4WD Ford Ranger in the winter snow. I cannot say enough about how smooth, reliable and economical these Tercels are. Too bad Toyota stopped making these cars because I would keep buying them new !!.The good news is Toyota now sells the "Yaris" as a comparable next generation economy car, which i'm told is quite a good car as well.
If you want an inexpensive great little car that gets almost as much MPG as the Prius for only a fraction of the cost, buy a Tercel!!!"
