"Have owned this toyota for over 4 years, bought it with 120,000 and put that many on since and have not stuck one penny into besides for one battery and two sets of tires! Awesome truck, would buy another one in a heartbeat"
"Bought this truck new in 2002, had to replace the power steering pump last year is the only repair. Pull an 18 ft boat alot and never let me down. Powerful with towing package, only 20mpg though, but powerful. Does ride like a truck, but it is a truck. Would buy another."
"Only gets 17 mpg no mater how it is driven.
It would be great for towing since the computer learns how you drive and there is a switch that extends the speed range of all the gears before it shifts.
Really great A/C with super high blower.
A/C output air is 40 degrees in 115 desert air."
"very good for what it is. It is not meant to haul a huge boat or carry a lot of people. It is a light duty truck that does very well on road and off road. It does not have a huge motor but I get about 20 mph on my '99 2.7L. There are V6's that have smaller engines than the four-cylinder."
"I purchased my truck with 70k mileage in the last 5 years I have logged 230k of heavy mileage (towing, hauling A little of off roading ) and have only put about $1,000 above and beyond normal maintenance. The truck still runs like it is new it does not leak a drop of anything never has left me stranded or failed to start. So to sum it up. you show me another compact truck that can outlast out perform and still look like new after 10 years and 300k millage point me too it"
"I purchased my '99 Tacoma new, and have spent very little on maintenance. Other than tires & brakes, repairs have been less than $400 over its' 135,000 mile (9 year) life. The gas mileage is ~27 mpg in the city. I own the extra cab version. The back seat is too small for kids over 5' tall, however it's great for tools, etc, since you can flip up the seats and fasten in your cargo with the seat belts. This truck is perfect for home use or small construction projects. If you go to a bigger truck, you'll cut the gas mileage in half."
"If your looking for a truck to pamper a woman in, this is probably not for you. If you want a functional, reliable truck, with good hauling, towing, and overall power for the size, this is for you. I have never had one problem with this truck and I have put 120,000 miles on it in less than five years, and it's still worth over $10,000. Good luck trying to find a used one for sale!"
"I had my 2000 since new, so it's seven years old with 100k. I've beaten and abused it and get second gear every chance I get. The first week I had it I took it mudding and trail riding. Tore the skid plate off of it.
I drive it everyday to work and play on the weekends. There more expensive but they are worth it. It's paid for now and I wont get rid of it.
The paint is starting to fade and it has some dings and scratches. I maintain it and change the oil every 3000 miles rather it needs it or not.
The only regret I have is leasing it instead of buying it through my bank "dumb kid" and that I didn't get the v6. Well I save some at the pump.
The only major thing I done to it was getting some BFG all terrains."
