2013 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab

The Toyota Tacoma rolls into 2013 without significant changes after it got a mild facelift, minor interior upgrades and some new audio systems just last year. As before, some top-line options, including the JBL-equipped audio system and Toyota's Entune infotainment system, are reserved for the V6/automatic Double Cab versions.

The 2012 Toyota Tacoma compact pickup truck receives new front-end styling, with a new grille and headlight design, some upgraded interior pieces and new audio systems that include USB ports and Bluetooth. Double Cab V6 models receive the most modern audio system that includes Toyota's Entune infotainment, navigation, HD radio, text/email-to-voice and the JBL GreenEdge energy-efficient sound system.

Five new fuel-efficient models join the Tacoma lineup for 2011, all equipped with the 2.7-liter engine. New trims include the T|X and T|X Pro Package, both based on last year's SEMA concept trucks. New features for 2011 include standard air conditioning on Regular Cab models and satellite radio on all models equipped with the six-disc CD changer.

All Tacoma trucks are now fitted with Toyota's STAR Safety System that adds anti-lock brakes (ABS) and electronic traction and stability control. Also standard are front-seat side-impact airbags and full-length side curtain airbags. A new Automatic Limited-slip Differential (Auto-LSD) replaces last year's mechanical model and is standard on all trims except for TRD Off-Road Package-equipped vehicles. Access Cab models receive standard power windows and door locks as well as redesigned rear seat.

About Toyota Tacoma Double Cab

The Tacoma may be Toyota's smallest pickup, but it has long since left the realm of the compact courier. Fresh from a complete makeover last year, the Tacoma now dwarfs the Ford Ranger and Chevrolet Colorado in every area that counts. Its closest competitors are now the Dodge Dakota and Nissan Frontier and, while worthy opponents, neither can touch the Tacoma's long history of reliability and high resale value. Wrapped in muscular new sheetmetal and touting the most powerful V6 engine ever to grace a small Toyota, the Tacoma has much to offer those who take their pickup trucks seriously.

Pros: "Great truck, nice handling."

Cons: "Frames rust out and become unsafe."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 1

"We love this truck and expected to have it for another 7 years but the main support frame has rusted out from the inside of the box spring areas, places where the owner cannot apply rust preventatives. Toyota has had an ongoing issue with Tacoma frames since the mid-90s but still keeps using the same flawed design. Their frame rust proofing consists of only a layer of paint, to the exterior of the frame, that wears off and then you have to apply oil to the frame to prevent rusting. However you cannot apply oil to the interior of the box frame areas and this is where my frame has rusted through. At this point I have a truck that looks and runs great that can neither be traded in or ethically sold to someone other than the junk yard. Of course it should be noted that Toyota warrants the body against rusting for 5 years but only warrants the frame for 3 years. Toyota's response is only that it's not under warranty or recall so it's not their problem."

Pros: "It's a Toyota"

Cons: "You're going to have to pay for what you're getting"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9

"As with all Toyota you have to pay for what you're getting. But as history has shown they retain their value in their book value. Year after year they have been on the top. The 2010's new V6 engine it a power house of an engine with more horse power and torque than ever. So much so you'll have to watch your speed as it's easy climb above the speed limit and not know with this power and ride. As with the demand for Toyota Tacoma's they are loaded with almost every options produced. That is the mixed blessings with the 4x4 Tacoma's you have to accept. But again you're going to retain the worth in used book value. Tacoma's are good for a hundred thousand miles with minimal care other than the basic care any vehicle will require. Over all a very good off-road mid-sized truck."
