KBB Editors' Overview

By Editors - Updated Date: 9/27/2013

The 2014 Toyota Sequoia is for those who need the space and capacity of a full-size SUV and want proven Toyota reliability and quality as well. It includes seating for eight people, a powerful standard V8 engine, optionally available 4-wheel drive (4WD) and a towing capacity of up to 7,400 pounds. Its competition includes the Chevrolet Tahoe, Nissan Armada and Ford Expedition. It may not top all those in every category, such as towing, for example, and its fuel economy is not the best, but it has a great powertrain, advanced features, excellent fit and finish and the peace of mind of rugged Toyota dependability.

You'll Like This Car If...

There are many choices in this segment, all of them with solid capabilities. What sets the 2014 Sequoia apart is its great powertrain, advanced features and the peace of mind of Toyota quality and reliability.

You May Not Like This Car If...

If you need more towing capacity, then a Ford Expedition or Chevrolet Suburban 2500 will be a better choice, as they can deal with the larger trailers.

What's New for 2014

For 2014 the Sequoia SR5 gets the Entune Audio Plus system, the Limited gets Entune Premium Audio, and the Platinum trim level has Entune Premium JBL Audio, which is optional for the Limited. Entune Audio leverages a smartphone for fully integrated access to navigation, entertainment and information services.

Driving It Driving Impressions

For those who need what a full-size SUV is intended to offer, the 2014 Toyota Sequoia is among the very best. The ride is nearly luxury-car smooth and the Platinum trim level's air-spring suspension makes it even better. The cabin is well-insulated from wind and road noise. Even with its considerable bulk, the independent rear suspension and good steering feel make keeping the Sequoia on its intended path easy and predictable, and the optional proximity-warning system and rearview video camera help in maneuvering its size through tight spots and crowded parking lots. The Sequoia deals quite well with slippery surfaces, wet boat ramps, snow-covered roads and the like but, if you're a serious off-roader, you should look elsewhere. But, used appropriately and as it's intended, the Toyota Sequoia is as good as it gets.

Favorite Features

Obvious though it might seem, there's something very reassuring about the peace of mind that comes from knowing the Sequoia brings with it the proven Toyota record of its trucks and SUVs being ruggedly built, highly dependable and manufactured of quality materials. For a family vehicle, it matters.

With Entune you can leverage your smartphone to provide such services as Pandora, or iHeartRadio, as well as real-time info on traffic, weather, gasoline prices and sports.
