Pros: "Great price, easy to adapt to, no real issues"

Cons: "Not the most comfortable interior"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I love my car. Original owner, glad I bought it. Had only one issue in all these years. One night all the dash lights turned on, I drove it to the shop for help, and it wouldn't turn back on. A few hours later it was fine and it has not happened again. Nothing was repaired and no issue was ever found. That was about a year ago. The timing chain instead of a timing belt has been a huge help. I am terrible at car maintenance, and this thing is still a trooper."

Pros: "No mechanical issues, Compact, Storage"

Cons: "Uncomfortable seating, Rusting, Discoloration"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 5

"This car has been in the family for about 4 years now. It has never once been on the side of the road. No major work has been needed. Great space for storage. Compact, which makes for easy maneuvering. Great visibility. The car is 15 years old, therefore there is some rust damage and fading. Poor metal quality. Seats can become uncomfortable during long trips. All in all, a reliable car despite cosmetic issues."

ECU Issues Have Plagued My Experience

Pros: "Comfortable"

Cons: "ECU Issues, Small (even for a Compact), Rear Door"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 1

"This model of Toyota is notorious for shifting issue due to a faulty ECU. The ECU has been replaced twice and reset 5 times. Every time the transmission acts appropriately for a little while before falling back into it's problems. Otherwise... PROS: it runs well outside of the shifting issues, comfortable, a bit on the smaller side (even for a compact SUV). CONS: I'm not sure if it's the ECU problem or what, but I'm lucky to get 13 miles to the gallon city, 15 highway. The rear fold down seats do not fold down flush with the cargo space, so it operates like a bi-level cargo area. That is quite inconvenient. I was surprised to see that the back window does not open (due to the spare tire being attached to the back door) and therefore cuts down on what I can tow in the back. If I have a package from Ikea, I usually have to call in a favor with a friend who has more room. Not a fan of the back door swinging open instead of being a liftgate."

Pros: "Great on gas 22 to 28 mpg"

Cons: "It could be a little bit bigger. But still good."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"This is a great reliable car and l got 160,000 on my toyota rav4 2001. Just do you regular maintenance and the car won't give any problems. Transmission fluid change, oil change, front and rear break change, Windows motor replace, Head lamps replace they got yellow, Interior is holding really good. no rust or any problems with the car. Part are really cheap and reliable. Gas is the best it don't waste anything. Its a great car with a good reputation. I have this car in the dominican republic and l can tell you it ruff out their and so far this car as last. I recommended."

Pros: "Awesome reliability, value, gas mileage, room, etc"

Cons: "ECU issue on some models, paints a little thin."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I bought this RAV4 used with about 80k miles on it for 10k cash a few years back. It was a one owner with all the service records. Someone loved this vehicle and it showed. The only issue I had with it was the infamous ECU computer was causing erratic idle and hard shifting like others have had with this 2001-2004 model year. I replaced it for about 600 bucks new (do your research as some dealers charge way more)and it's been fine ever since. The only other things I've replaced were normal wear items like the radiator, all four 02 sensors, brakes, tires, all fluids changed, and that's it. And all these parts are cheap compared to other cars. It has had no mechanical failures and runs like a champ. I love it. I look at new vehicles all the time thinking I want something newer or bigger, but every time I jump back in my RAV4 and haul butt off the dealers lot. I just can't sell it. It's been too great to me and it's paid off. How can anything compete with that? Buy one, you won't be sorry."

"This is the bast car I've ever owned. I've owned this car since new and, with the exception of a couple of manufacture recalled items, have never had to make any repairs that are not normal wear and tear. Pros: mechanically solid, well built with excellent long lasting parts. The paint has lasted and still looks good. Cons: the seating is a little uncomfortable for long drives. I routinely drive for 1-2 hours and the seats are fine, but for 4 hours of longer, they get a little hard to stand (sit)."
