Cons: "Didn't come with a winning lottery ticket."

"I have owned my 1998 Rav4 for only 2 1/2 months but I have put on over 7000 miles on it. It now has 193,500 miles. It's just so much fun to drive. It's one of my all-time favorites and I have owned over 100 cars and driven many more in my 50 years of driving. I get, as an average, 26 miles per gallon. Never less than 24.5 even if it's just city driving. I paid $3000 for it and feel that it was money well spent. I have changed the oil twice and switched to synthetic which makes it run even quieter. The A/C is great. I love the view from the expansive greenhouse. The sound system is great although the original CD player is sort of showing it's age. I can fit my bike in the back or ride very comfortably with my grandson and 2 dogs. I also really like having a 5-speed manual and AWD. I like how easy it is to get in and out of. I know that it's not exactly an Indy race car for acceleration, but it's still good enough to get on the highway without causing a problem. It's certainly, as it has been categorized, "adequate". My complaints about this 17 year old Rav4 is that the clock doesn't work and the rear view mirror is a little loose. Hardly disqualifiers. I try to make excuses to go and drive it. It's a cool, personal sized, well-built vehicle and I'm so glad I bought it."

Pros: "Great car, fully functional & reliable."

Cons: "Damage to right rear passenger door."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

1998 Toyota RAV4, 4WD, 4D with roof racks and front end protective "bra".

"I love this car. It has served me well & reliably for 17 years. I would keep it, but I recently bought a trailer and I need a larger car to tow it safely. It has a dent on the right rear passenger door which renders that door inoperable. I chose not to fix it as the repairs would cost me more than Blue Book value of the car. I rarely use the rear passenger doors anyway, so it was not an issue for me. Slapped a big bandaid decal on it and it looks cool. ;-) In September 2013, I put $6000 into maintenance, replacing struts, shocks, clutch, and fixing the 5th gear (manual transmission) which was popping out upon acceleration. Service advisor told me after completion of these repairs that I had a great car and that it was bulletproof for easily another 150,000 miles. Toyotas run forever if you keep up with regular maintenance, which I have done since I purchased it new in 1998. Best & most reliable I car I have owned to date, and I've owned cars since 1972."

"this car belonged to my brother in California then I inherited it. It has made several trips to Missouri and other places in US. Needs to new front tires and a timing chain. other than that never had a problem at all. Has been a great vehicle. If you like to hunt and fish its great. Needs a paint job clear coat is finally fading on it."

Pros: "Just great all-around and so much fun to drive."

Cons: "No cup holders! Still a great car!"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I bought this certified Rav4 in 1999 and it's been amazing. I've kept up with the regular maintenance and it's an absolute gem. The only replacement I made was the air conditioner. I'm thinking about getting a newer model, but I'm hesitant because this one still drives beautifully. Why buy when it ain't broke? I would recommend Toyota RAV4 to everyone. It's a no-stress vehicle!"

Pros: "Fun to drive, extremely reliable"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I've had my Rav4 for nearly 8 years, put over 100,000 miles on it, and have had no major problems with it. It's never left me stranded and I've only had to complete regular maintenance (spark plugs twice, oil change every 5,000). Sadly it was totaled a few years back from hail damage, but it's so dependable and worth it's money I decided to keep it just to see how long it'll go (another 100,000+ I'm sure). It's a front wheel drive (one of the few), but I've taken it on 4 wheel drive/high clearance roads and never been stuck. Handles great even on snowy Colorado dirt roads. Lots of pep, not a ton of power, really fun to drive. Starting to show age in a broken back door handle, and sun fading, but still in excellent mechanical condition."

Pros: "Reliable, tough, cute, fun to drive, handles well"

Cons: "Small engine not super for passing, rough ride."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"My Rosie is the BEST 'lil car ever! Fun to drive, with the 5 speed manual tranny. She has what I would describe as a "trucky" ride, a bit rough, but I don't mind. Toyota dependability and quality. Her paint is beginning to fade a bit, but she has spent the better part of her life outside. She has about 129,000 miles on her and I hope to drive her a hundred more! She is great in the New Mexico snow, and handles really well, really a road hugger and so easy to slide into a parking space. No blind spots either, which is a problem on some cars. Only minor complaint I have is her little engine might slow a bit on really long steep climbs. She can putt down the freeway with ease, but she's tough enough for a washboard dirt road. Gas mileage is about 20 mpg, probably would be better on a newer model. Although her interior isn't big, it has a feeling of spaciousness where you don't feel cramped or like your head is touching the ceiling. Can't ever go wrong with a Toyota!"
