After a modest refresh last year, the 2012 Toyota Highlander Crossover carries on unchanged for 2012.

2011 Toyota Highlander

For 2011, the Toyota Highlander receives new front and rear fascias, hood and bumpers, plus expanded availability of the four-cylinder engine and standard three-row seating with rear climate controls. The hybrid model gains a more powerful V6 engine, while the entire line has access to more high-tech features.

About Toyota Highlander

Long considered the gold standard in crossover SUVs, Toyota takes the legendary Highlander one step closer to perfection by offering a hybrid/electric variant that is both fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly. More complex than Toyota's other well-know hybrid, the Prius, the Highlander Hybrid utilizes a 3.3-liter V6 engine (the same as used by the gasoline-powered Highlander) teamed to an electric motor. On four-wheel-drive models, Toyota includes another electric motor to power the rear wheels. The Highlander Hybrid sacrifices almost no interior room in accommodating its additional hardware, but when compared with its gasoline-powered equivalent its price tag jumps a hefty seven grand.

"I've had my 08 Limited Highlander for about a month now, and still have absolutely no complaints! (well, actually, one it's black, but with the deal I got it being a limited, I had to take it). I drove the domestic wanna-be of the Highlander first before I drove this, and it was nice, but then I got in the Highlander and never looked anywhere else. I do a lot of research before purchasing a vehicle and this was on my list. My mom has an 06 Hybrid Ltd Highlander, and she loves hers. This one is a bit bigger, thankfully, than hers, as I have three children still in carseats. I traded my van (which people think I'm crazy) for this and I couldn't be happier. The back seat is fine and have no problems with the kids getting in and out. They have plenty of space and so do average size adults. As always, Toyota goes above the rest in their seating..always comfortable. This Highlander drives like a dream...smooth as silk. I am averaging about 22-24 mpg, and I drive both city and highway. I don't get into it, although it does when I want it to, and I think that's good for the amount of HP it has. I cannot think of one bad thing with this vehicle. I paid a hefty price for it, but having owned both foreign and domestic vehicles, it is well worth the price. I would highly recommend this to anyone, both large familes and not--this is a luxury vehicle without the high price tag!"

"I got the limited hybrid version and have been driving it for a month now. So far I have loved the vehicle. The "ECONOMY" mode is very nice to get better gas mileage. I have been avaeraging about 28 mpg both city and highway combined. Lot of space for family and kids. Nice innovative design and styling. Good ground clearance. I would recommend this vehicle to my friends."

"It was a long process of researching which vehicle was the right one for us. Considering our budget and the desire to have a safe vehicle we narrowed down to three: Honda Pilot, Subaru Tribeca, Toyota Highlander. Honda Pilot was too bulky and it was a bit awkward parking the vehicle. We liked all the safety features, the drive was pleasant, but it was just too bulky and the parking was an issue. Subaru Tribeca was fun to drive. We like the safety features, had a lot of control driving, it had a car like feel, but it was too difficult finding the right model and package. There aren’t many Tribecas out there…just curious as to why. So we decided to buy the Toyota Highlander (SE, 4wd). It had the safety features we were looking for, the drive was pleasant, felt like driving a Camry but sat higher, and it came with the 4wd with snow option. The SE model came with a lot of extra features like blue tooth, moon roof, power tailgate, garage door opener, leather seats with seat warmers, dual-climate control (front/back), back-up camera, and auto-dim rearview mirror. It also felt very luxurious in the cabin. At the end of the day, we felt like we made the right decision. We are very happy with the vehicle and it’s a lot of fun driving it. Good luck on your car search!"
