New features for the 2011 FJ Cruiser include a standard locking rear differential on manual transmission models, a new audio system with MP3/WMA playback capability, USB port, Bluetooth for phone and streaming music, and XM Satellite Radio. New options include a 10-speaker JBL audio system and a new Trail Teams Special Edition model in Army Green.
Front seat side-mounted airbags and front and rear side curtain airbags are now standard on every FJ. New options include an Off-Road Package with 16-inch alloy wheels surrounded by BF Goodrich Rugged Trail tires, Bilstein shocks and a rear-differential lock.
For those old enough to remember, the 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser SUV is vaguely reminiscent of the original FJ40 Land Cruisers that help build the company's reputation for rugged durability roughly a half-century ago. While it certainly looks newer, it has kept the original's straightforward feel, with no excess luxury trimmings or frills – just the capability to go nearly anywhere. Some might line it up against the Jeep Wrangler, but there are significant differences. The FJ's roof is not removable and the FJ is obviously finished to a higher level than the decidedly more utilitarian Jeep.
