About Suzuki SX4

The SX4, a brand new model from Suzuki, joins a small group of all-wheel-drive hatchbacks favored by young buyers who want a low-end, compact-sized carry-all. A friendly little car with a distinctive design, the SX4 fits nicely into the economy-plus-power niche that the budget-conscious buyer seeks. Suzuki predicts huge growth in the compact five-door hatchback market in deference to fuel prices and the decline of large SUVs. With an engine designed by General Motors and built in Japan, the SX4 is assembled in Hungary, handy production locations for a model that Suzuki plans to sell as a world car. Sales of the carmaker's entire lineup have soared over the last two years, with Suzuki increasingly recognized as a reputable, reliable maker of market-driven, inexpensive models.

"Have had our SX4 since Dec 2006 - has about 10k miles on it. Averaging 26.4 mpg city/hwy since day 1, with about 60% of that city driving. Gets about 34 mpg on the hwy - anyone who is getting bad mileage with this car is just not driving it right. Pay attention to the mpg readout! We live in snowy Rochester NY and the 4WD works really well - push that button and this car grips and goes. Pros: the least-expensive switchable 4WD vehicle in the country. Lots of room for a relatively small car. Great mpg. Handles great. Funky styling. Typical Japanese high quality. 100k full warranty (and free lifetime oil changes at my dealer!) Cons: no center arm rest. No sun roof option. Time/temp/mpg display washes out in bright light. No vertical adjustment on driver's seat. I've owned lots of cars in the last 45+ years - this one is definitely a keeper. And it's thousands less than the equivalent Subaru/Toyota/Honda/Chevy. Eventually Suzuki is going to figure out that they priced it WAY too low - get one now before they do that. You can't go wrong with this car, especially if you need 4WD."

"This car has been great all around. The gas mileage is not amazing but it is good for being all-wheel drive. It averages about 25mpg or better. The all-wheel is amazing in the over two feet we have had in the last month! Definitely recommend this car!"

"I am thinking the people that are only getting 23mpg have A. Not had it long enough to break it in, which granted seemed a bit longer than it should have. or B. Drive it too aggressively, it is a 4 cyl. for crying out loud. Yes it has a good 143 hp., but not for racing. at around 30,000 miles now and getting 33-34 mpg, and about 370-390 miles to a fill up. I found out you can safely drive below the bottom line into the E about half way, like another user said, the gas light comes on way early. I took this car on a trip from northern Indiana here to the UP of Michigan, out to Seattle, down through central California, and back to Indiana, and it did fine. The only thing was after driving at high speeds for a while like the interstate requires, it sticks a little and doesn't want to accelerate well, but after 10+ hrs on the road, that is a task for any engine. The keyless, start, entry is wonderful. and not being able to lock in the keys with the keys in the pass remote is a good thing, I used to lock my keys in all the time. I have the touring sport, and love the 6cd changer, mute/pause button, suspension steering, etc. On my last road trip I got 393miles to a tank! and another trip got 420, but that was severely milking it and driving cautiously, but still wonderful to know if worse comes to worse you can meander to a gas station most likely. In the western US though be careful, it can be hundreds of miles to a gas station or 80 or more, so if your on a quarter, please, please, please, fill up. Don't want to be like my father and I who had to call Suzuki roadside in the middle of North Dakota and wait for a gallon of gas lol. Agreed, comfort can be an issue if you are much taller than 6'. Enjoy this car for what it's worth. Take care of it, drive it with care, and it will take care of you."
