A new hybrid model joins the lineup. Using the same 2.0-liter engine only with slightly higher compression and an electric motor assist, the XV Crosstrek Hybrid delivers 12 additional horsepower and 18 more lb-ft of torque, plus an additional 4 mpg in city driving. Models equipped with navigation now feature the Aha infotainment app.

2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek

The 2013 XV Crosstrek is a brand-new nameplate in the Subaru lineup and looks to make a name for itself in the small-SUV segment by way of impressive fuel economy, stylish sheetmetal and go-anywhere capability.

About Subaru XV Crosstrek

The 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek looks a lot like the Impreza compact sedan/ hatchback upon which it's based, but the changes made to it are more than cosmetic. The capable little crossover SUV offers up 8.7 inches of ground clearance, just as much as the bigger Subaru Outback, and even more than some "real" off-road vehicles like the Jeep Grand Cherokee. This year, the Subaru XV Crosstrek gets Subaru's EyeSight suite of active safety gear, which uses cameras and other sensors to incorporate active cruise control, lane-departure warnings and pre-collision braking. Along with a new base model and a new audio system, the XV Crosstrek and Crosstrek Hybrid are well suited to go head-to-head with the likes of the new Honda HR-V and other small SUVs.

Pros: "driving 15mph with only electric engine great fun"

Cons: "no spare tire"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I only had two concerns with my 2014 Subaru Hybrid Touring when I purchased it new in March of 2015. 1. no spare tire - solved this with a spare mounted on the new roof rack. 2. bigger concern was handling - solved this by adding an aftermarket front flexible strut brace and factory rear sway bar kit. This improved high speed mountain interstate highway handling remarkably. I just read Dadawada's review and think this would improve his drivibility."

"My wife and I bought this Crosstrek Limited and are extremely pleased so far with everything about it. Drove through 12 inches of snow last January (winter storm Jonas) without any handling problems up in the Smoky Mtns. Power is sufficient and the satellite radio is wonderful."
