Few vehicles on the market can equal the Subaru Outback's ability to conquer tough terrain while simultaneously delivering carlike fuel economy. Safety buffs will appreciate its perfect crash test mar
Those who wish to tow more than 3,000-pounds or frequently carry more than five passengers should begin their search for a new vehicle with a conventional mid-size SUV like the Chevrolet Equinox, Toyo
If fuel economy takes precedent over quick acceleration, the 2013 Subaru Outback's 2.5-liter four with the continuously variable transmission (CVT) is your best bet. The 173-horsepower engine has to work a bit, but once up to speed, the CVT finds and holds the engine's peak torque, providing a good balance of response and efficiency. The CVT does take some getting used to, as there are no discernible gearshifts like a traditional automatic. The standard steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles, however, allow the driver to simulate manual gears

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 5,000
overall rating 10 of 10rating detailsPros: "best bang for the buck with the 3.6r. nice growl."
Cons: "invisable to papparazzi... or is that a pro?"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10
"sold the Porsche a few years ago. sold the Jaguar, then sold the BMW 325xi AWD wagon, and looked for something different. Needed AWD for snowy winters in the SO CAL mountains. decided to try the outback and figured I'd be disappointed. WRONG!. It is very plain on the outside, so law enforcement pays it zero attention, but the 3.6 engine is surprisingly strong and puts my BMW and Jags of the past to shame. the special appearance package gets you a wonderfully luxo leather interior and all of the electronics you could ask for. $20,000 less than a comparable BMW, $40,000 less than Mercedes, or Porsche Cayenne, (basically you can buy 2 loaded outbacks or one Porsche) less for insurance, and the car is loads of fun to throw around."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 10,000
overall rating 1 of 10rating detailsPros: "AWD is all"
Cons: "not enough interior cargo space, blind spots, etc"

"I wouldn't recommend this car to anyone. Why? I bought it new: broke down on freeway FIRST day I owned it. It's been in and out of shop since. 1. All transmission problems: speeds up when trying to parallel park. I don't even try to parallel park any more, as it is too risky for cars in front of me. 2. Limited cargo space. Second row seats do not go into floor to make a smooth surface. 3. BAD blind spots on sides of car. I bought small convex mirrors to put on side mirrors. 4. Interior lights in daytime in So Calif make it impossible to safely change any settings. I have to decide on a/c or heat in ADVANCE. FRANKLY I COULD HAVE DESIGNED A BETTER CAR."
