"My 1998 Outback finally called it quits with 215,00 miles and not a single breakdown (until this week). It had practically no mechanical problems other then everyday wear and tear. It drove great in the snow and ice and never got stuck. I also drove it off-road for my job. I hope that my next Outback is as good as this one. The only thing that I didn't like was the cup holder in the front seat. The built in NOAA radio was awsome."

"Comfortable once inside to drive but difficult at 5'9" 190# to get in and out of at 62 yrs of age. It handles great in snow and ice. The lumbar section of the seat needs more support for long hauls but otherwise it handles and drives nicely on the open road. A slip in the tranny but we're watchin it for almost 4 years now and it doesn't get any worse. I hope this car lasts my lifetime."

"Decent car, except for the oils leaks. Needed to have one fixed around 60K that cost about $700, oil pump reseal at 90k for about $500, and just had more around leaks sealed at 120K for $1000, and I still need to have another set fixed for around $1000. Also had to have the rear differential gaurd removed early on because it kept coming loose. OK for normal use, but if you want the car for off road use, I'd watch for that."
