"I purchased my Baja new in August of 2003 in Canada.($40,000 CA$s, Ouch!) The Canadian model has a few more bells and whistles than does the US model. It uses metric units so distance is measured in KM, speed in KM/hr, temperature in Centagrade and the fuel tank is in Liters. Economy is measured in Liters/100 KM. Converting to Miles/Gallon is a good challenge problem for a bright fifth grader. I kept it in Canada for ten years and used it in the summers. The only snow it has know was seen through the garage window when it was stored for the winter. To my knowledge it was the only Baja licensed on Prince Edward Island, Canada's smallest province. It got lots of comments, questions and admiring looks from both the locals and tourists Importing it into the US was not problem. (it was assembled in Indiana but I was still "importing " it to the US) Some paper work was required at US Customs, which they filled out. It helped to have a letter from Subaru stating that when it was assembled in 2003 it complied with all safety and environment regulations then in force in the US. It also has a number of stickers testifying to the same. With 30,000 KM (20,000 miles) on the odometer and fully detailed before I left Canada it is nearly a new car for me now that it has a new home in the US. At ten years old, and never driven in the snow, I am anxious to give it a go next winter in Illinois. I am a little dubious about the ten year old Potenza tires although the look as good as new. I am looking at replacing them with Michelin Primacy MXV4 Grand Touring All-Season. The reviews are very positive for that tire on the Baja. Needless to say I love my cruck. When zipping along at 100 KM/Hr in my Baja life does not get any better."

"I bought this car brand new on St Patty's Day 2007. I left home intending to get a Toyota Tacoma, but came home with the Baja. I have never regreted the decision. I've hauled anything in the bed of the Baja I might have hauled in the Toy, and I've had four real passenger seats. I would have had to get the crew cab for that and more extra $ for four wheel drive. I've driven my Baja Sport in all kinds of weather. It is great in the snow and even handles the ice well with sane, safe driving for the conditions. I wish my dealer had talked about available options such as the tow package and tonneau cover. My only regret is that I didn't get the turbo. However, I've gotten 3 speeding tickets in my Sport. Would have set new records with the turbo."

"At 150k I had to change the timing belt and head gasket for $1500. My trans died after 177k. Its going to cost $1,946 to fix and I plan to keep driving this car until the wheels fall off."

"I usually get tired of a care and want to trade by 4 years. This has been a great vehicle, minimal repairs needed and still running great!. I know there will come a time to buy something else but am hoping this lasts longer. Great buy. Unfortunately they stopped making it."
