"My 2006 Atlantic Pearl Blue Baja Sport is my 4th new Subaru and my second Baja, which was a 2004 Sport.
The dealer made me an offer I couldn't refuse on my '04, and since Subaru stopped making the Baja model in '06, I had to have one made in the final year.
There is no other car on the road that can seat 4, has advanced AWD, gets 25-30 MPG and has a pick up bed.
The car handles great, gets good mileage, and is incredibly practical. I have never had a mechanical problem with either Baja.
It has a good, quiet ride, yet is nimble in the parking lot.
I buried the Baja in a snow bank up to the windows and drove right out with no problem. Before my road was repaired, I could skate over the mud where big 4X4 trucks just spun and sank to their axles.
The symetrical AWD system on the Baja is superior to most out there and is light years ahead of your typical 4X4 truck.
My Baja can go through ANYTHING that doesn't leave a wheel in the air, but even then, it has great ground clearance.
It is a great feeling to know that regardless of weather conditions, I can get where I'm going and get back without spending a fortune on gas.
I equipped both my Bajas with Goodyear Advantage radials, which improves the wet/frozen traction considerably. I highly recommend them for the car.
Before the Bajas, I had owned a pick up truck. Room for two, big bed that I never filled up and lousy mileage. I don't miss it.
People wait for me in parking lots to ask about the car. I hate to tell them that they can't buy a new one.
Although the pick up bed is small, it has more capacity than you might think, because the lift gate (and license plate) fold down, and a tubular aluminum extender lets you pile more stuff back there than you can believe.
There is also a hatch that you can open which allows you to put long objects into the rear seat area, which also folds down.
For those few occasions where something really big needs to be transported, it has a trailer hitch that can tow 2400 lbs.
I hope that Subaru brings the Baja back, because it is unique, and if you ask anyone who owns one, they will tell you that for what it is, it is the best car on the road.
The only problem is, you are going to have a hard time finding one, because anyone who owns one is unlikely to give it up.
The Baja is a Practical Beauty!"
