"I bought a 1997 sl1 for my 17 year old son 4 years ago for $1200. It's been a GREAT car for him! He took it to college, and still drives it today. We replaced the timing belt at 140,000 miles, along with brake pads on the front. No other issues. I was so impressed with this car that I bought a 1999 sl1 for myself. This car is perfect for a first vehicle for a young person, due to it's reliability, gas milege, dent resistant door panels, driver AND passenger side airbags...and price! It remains one of the best buys I have ever made...no kidding!"
"I have a 2000 SL1 with a 5 speed manual transmission. The car has 152K miles. I average 42.5 mpg in the summer using the AC. The spark plugs have been replaced once, the AC was charged this year. The front brake pads were replaced at 105K miles. The front tires at 110K miles and the rear tires at 140K miles. I have spent $600 in maint. costs over almost 8 years (not counting oil changes). I change the oil about every 10-12k miles (and use the standard 5w-30 oil. All other parts of the car are original... and it still looks like new. I'll never give this car up."
"This car is amazing. I bought one 4 years ago and have put 30,000 miles on it. It is at 100,000 and have not had any trouble with it other than the heater going out. Like the other reviewer said, change the oil and it will run forever. 38 MPG"
