"Bought this car thinking it'd be low mileage and a good commuter car. So wrong. Not sure how others were getting 30 mpg, since I'm averaging about 22. I've had an engine job done, ignition module, fuel injectors, and I haven't even had it 2 years. Check engine light comes and goes every few days as it pleases, and GM dealerships have told me it's normal. I think I'd prefer a car that does not misfire upon idling..."

Pros: "great economy and solid exceleration"

Cons: "short on plush features"

"Bought the car with 1800 miles on it and have put on 80K. Gets great gas mileage (high 30's on the highway), very peppy when needed, very reliable. Did replace the ignition due to GM design flaw (they now acknowledge the problem and have issued recall). I would keep driving it, but my son needs a car now."

"I bought this car with the insurance money from my first car after I totaled it. My Ion is a 2006 and had 70000 miles on the clock when I got her. During the first 3 months it spent 3 weeks in the shop trying to solve an intermittent issue where she would not start. After the first three months, the starting issue was not resolved and over half the time I would get in the car and she would not start. The dealer ( which to be clear was not affiliated with GM) would no longer take her in for inspection or warranty repair work. I then went to a different mechanic and after another 3 weeks in the shop, the problem turned out to be a fuse in the steering column. This has been a problem that other Saturn owner have reported. After 6 months of owning the Ion, it would now start reliably. Now that the starting problem was fixed, another problem became more apparent. The car would intermittently go into "engine power saving mode" and would not accelerate and infact lose speed when this happened while driving down the highway. After several hundred dollars, and YEARS of trying, I still haven't fixed this problem. As a relatively lesser problem, after my girlfriend bought me magnetic bumper stickers we discovered that NONE of the body panels hold a magnet, including the trunk. With all of the other problem I have experienced, the fact that body is 100% plastic only adds insult to injury. When the car is not acting up, it is decent to drive. It does get decent gas mileage. The steering is responsive and the ride is comfortable for both driver and passengers. Speaking of passengers, the back seat is surprisingly spacious, having plenty of leg room for two full sized adults. The trunk is average sized, perfect for my two person household. Infact, you can fit a full sized spare into the spare well. While I am not saying that my experience with this vehicle is common, I will never buy a GM vehicle again. I am counting down the days until I can afford to replace it!"

Pros: "Great on Gas, Sporty, Easy to Drive"

Cons: "Expensive to fix, Hard to find parts for"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 2

"I have owned my car for several years. It needs a lot of maintance to keep it running but overall its not the worst car I have ever owned. Pros are they are great on gas, easy to drive. Cons It takes time getting use to where the gauges are (In the middle of dash rather then behind the stearing wheel) Maintaining the vechicle is expensive. Saturn Parts are hard to find and not cheap when you do find them. Every time something goes wrong it cost me hundereds of dollars to fix and takes forever to track down the parts."
