"This is now the 3rd Convertable 900 SE that I've owned. The first two were totaled in accidents where other members of my family were driving. Both times hit by drunk drivers, one a head on @ 40MPH, the other a side @ 30MPH, both times my sister and my father walked away, no injuries. I keep buying the same car because you just can't match the sporty performance for the money anywhere else. The top goes up and down in 32 seconds and the 0-60 feels more like a 6-cyl than the turbo 4. I have driven one across the US three times, twice towing a trailer, with no problems and plenty of comfort. Nothing like the plains with the top down! The ONLY complaint that I have is that due to the 4-cyl and turbo set-up you can't really effectively engine brake, BUT I realize this means I get 22-26 mpg effeciency, so the trade-off is worth it to me."
"I had always been a SAAB fan and picked up a used 900 SE Turbo about 7 years ago for my daughter to drive to school. I took it for myself and gave her a Volvo, I can't imagine driving anything else now. this car hauls the mail, Gets really decent mileage and drives upscale for the cost to comfort ratio. I really can't find a dang thing to complain about with the exception of the the heated drivers seat, which my dawg broke..lol. If you can find one in decent shape then buy it, but make sure it's a year model before GM took them over. Once GM got a hold of them it was all down hill."
"160k on it. replaced brakes, tires, clutch all last year and is running great. no other major vehicle fixes. has no problems. It is a little low to the ground which can be uncomfortable to some but the leather seats make up for that. It is 15 years old and the paint still looks great, minor rust on bottom of trunk, can hardly see it. The only cosmetic wear is cracked leather on the seats, missing Saab emblem on hood and trunk, and seals on windows are worn which causes some minor leakage when going through car washes."
"i have been the owner of my 1996 Saab for less than a year and truely i love it. On the other hand i have had several problems some as small as the service engine light coming on because when my mother went and got gas for me she failed to twist the gas cap on past three clicks, all the way to a $1500 part for the convt top. and the thing that got me was that the part wasn't the one that actually raised the top it was the motor to the boot that covered the top! $1500 for that!!! i think not. good news tho i got the part at a junk yard for $145 and eliviated the problem all together. on the topic of performance! mine is an automatic and with the turbo you always have a bit of turbo lag, in this car you have a quarter mile of turbo lag. when i got the car tuned up i thought it may improve... Guess again. on fuel economy i was disapointed. where i drive is predominantly rolling country roads there which i get 20 - 23MPG on the highway however i get a good solid 28MPG. it has never dies on me and never YET have i had any problems with the engine or transmission, knock on wood because a new transmission is almost 5K! to wrap this up i would recomend this car only to those who are established in their careers and not to someone like myself. i am fresh out of high school and newly into college, and i can attest that i have 2 jobs to keep this thing on the road.... and food for thought EUROPEAN SPORTS CONVT WITH A TURBO! if your a teen dont even bother because i am paying bouku bucks for it in insurance alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
