Pros: "Everything about the car"

Cons: "None, although cup holders might be nice:-)"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I own four Porsches and this Boxter is the newest, 1999. I have replaced a clutch, rotor and IMS while it was pulled apart, girlfriend problem, Central command unit, not expensive and a very few other minor items. This mid engine is phenomenal on the hilly, curvy roads that go w to e across CA. Sometimes when I am in a banked sharp curve and realize I am doing triple digits with NO sway in the car it gets my heart pumping. My 928 S4 is the best road car ever built, the 930 Turbo is the best all around car and the 944 fun but no match for the other three. I even own a Harley V-Rod because of the Porsche transmission"

Pros: "Exotic great handling sports car and affordable."

Cons: "Could be tight fit, find a good independent mech."

"A pleasure to drive slow or fast. A beautifully crafted and engineered machine. 2 trunks, good storage for trips. No maintenance issues whatsoever in my 7 years of ownership. Same build quality 996 911 of same era in including many shared parts from doors forward. At 6" 240 lbs. I could use a bit more room. Once in, I am quite comfortable and recently drove 900 miles in one day and was not uncomfortable. Great car for the money but having it checked out by a mechanic familiar with the car is well worth the cost. The early Cars Have a very small percentage of IMS caused engine failures. A very costly fix. Research on the Web. Mine has been fine. My mechanic checks the oil filter after oil changes to check for bearing potential failure evidence."

"I have a 1999 boxster with only 6,100 miles. This red with red removable hard top vehicle is the ultimate in low cost / high performance Porsche models."

Early Picture when I was still in love.

"I have had a 1956 Jag-J140 Coupe, 300ZX - (4 seater- for 17 years!) and the 2001 Porsche Boxster, so I have "spanned the globe" in terms of car origination. The Best Car of the 3 w.r.t. reliability-- The Nissan 300 ZX by far; the worst was the Jag (but I was not the original owner). The most fun car to drive? The Boxster; when it was not in the garage waiting to be repaired. Nothing major except the wheels, which went out of round when I hit a pot hole on I-64 near Va. Beach. I tried having them "trued up", but they still could not be balanced. So I bought a set of Italian wheels which look very much like the originals and have held up very nicely. I have had to replace the rear light assembly, the dashboard key switch, part of the dash electronics and a switch in the seat that determines if the seat belts are on. The switch was not connected to the 'bells, but an dash indicator showed the air bags would not deploy in the event of a crash. Oh, did I mention the Porsche Insignia on the hood just flew off one day -- I was traveling at about 25 miles per hour. Never found it and the replacement was $75.00 So if you have a lot of bucks, don't need the car as the main vehicle for transportation and love to drive 'spiritedly', then you might want a Porsche. But if you want a good fast car that will last and last, then a 300 Series Nissan would be a better choice. When I say big bucks, I mean to say that you will need $$$ to keep the car on the road. I paid cash for this car new, kept-up the required maintenance at fantastic shop (I would definitely recommend NOT going to a Porsche dealership for maintenance or repairs unless you really want to part with your heir's inheritance) and was very disappointed in the overall ownership Would I buy another Porsche -- definitely not (at ANY price)."

Pros: "fun to drive, low purchase cost"

Cons: "expensive to maintain"

"The Porsche Boxster is a well-designed, mid to high performance sportscar with a lot of curb appeal. Its mid engine design attests to the overall performance appeal. But it's a two edged sword. The engine is difficult to get to and service. In order for you to change out the water pump, for instance, you have to take out the front passenger seat and basically take part of the interior apart. But overall its dependability has been high and my need to access the engine has been practically zero."

"Works as an everyday commuter car. Very comfortable. Also is a great weekend car that handles like a dream. May not be the fastest car off the line, but if it isn't a straight line get out of my way!"
