"The Porsche 968 struck me due to the styling, speed, options, and leg room. Being 6'3" the only Porsche's that I tested that had any level of comfort were 2+2 models. Initally, I found the 968 online at an unbelievable value and it was in in greqat condition in both the interior and exterior. I know that the previous owner had the servicing done locally from an unauthorized dealer. This, I believe, is why I had to invest on the trnasmission, changing the belts, the sunroof and the cooling system. Yet, this was all relative due to the deal that I received. I love the tiptronic option the most. Overall, I would do it again."
"I bought my 968 last April and have enjoyed driving it ever since. The price I paid was good, and it needed some work, but it has been a labor of love with this car. The more I repair things, the better I like the car (of course). I didn't expect to develop such an emotional attachment with it. Why? So many reasons:
- Great driving car
- Nice power, which translates to fun
- Great cornering ability
- Seems dependable as I repair things that were abused before I owned the car
- It attracts a LOT of attentions, which was completely unanticipated. People will come out of stores to look at it. Others will walk up to it and comment about how beautiful the car looks. It's a phenomenon I am unaccustomed to, but which is very gratifying.
One thing I have learned is that if you can find a great mechanic, who will work on the car at a decent rate, do everything you can to keep a good relationship. It seems that some mechanics think that because you own a Porsche (no matter how old) you must be loaded. I know in my case that isn't true!
Basically, once you have the car where you want it, enjoy it! It's a fantastic drive. I intend to keep my car a long time and then pass it on to my son, who already loves it. (You should see the smile that crosses his face when we "put the pedal to the metal.""
"I have owned my 1992 Coupe for the past 5 years. It is not my daily driver and still has less than 50K on her, but even when she sits, she still starts up on the 1st click. With correct tires, ( I have Michellin Pilots) and the 50/50 weight displacement, she holds tight curves at all speeds I put her through. Since this model is little known, everyone that comes up to me about the car think it is a current model. Every car I have ever owned has been a manual, and the shifting in this beats them all hands down. The gear ratio is right on. I love this car and don't see myself ever getting rid of her."
"The 968 is an overlooked gem. Buy one if you can find it. My '94 cabriolet is a former California car, new ragtop, new leather, new paint, a fresh set of timeing stuff, 6 speed is smooth as silk. It's powerfull and a pleasure to play with when the top's down. Parts are pricey, but what the heck, it's an affordable sports car that'll blow the doors off others it's age. No one seems to know what a 968 is, so be prepared to talk about this car in parking lots when folks come up to ask."
