Triptronic ,Green Metallic + Butterscotch Interior
Price $16,000.. $18-20k is very fair for a great condition.
I write this review after a weekend in Hollywood Ca. We arrived at the hotel and after 1hr of HOT weather driving on Sunset Blvd. Reason for the back story is how AWESOME this car looks. The 996 body still looks very current. You might read some stories about the hood latch sticking, well it did not open upon arrival at a 4+ Star hotel, I told the Valet its hot, it sticks once in a while. please park it..
And now the Awesome part, the valet who sees high end cars all day says, hey I parked the car in the premium area. Come on I’m thinking, a 2001 Carrera big deal right ? I see it next to - no, lie a lambo, ferrari, carrera turbo, MB SL500…. valet states “we park all the good ones here”. So if a valet thinks its cool, it is. buy one you will feel like a bigshot, Instant status for $20k !! The ride is awesome, zippy, nimble, plenty of power. .roll down the windows, open the sun roof, juice it to 80 and you feel like your going 100+, you feel all of it, whatever” it” is. I drive my MB at 80mph and feel like I am ready for a nap.. The interior is great yet basic, and comfortable. You feel part of the car. its for driving not for dorking with your phone, a $20 plug for the stock radio will get your ipod working, drive and enjoy. NOTE the 1999-2001 does not have a glove box. You have ZERO cabin storage except the small arm rest area. 2002 + has a glove box – I did not realize this till I drove it home the next day.. I like the 5 Speed Automatic Triptronic, at 50yrs old I am past shifting and the paddle shift works great when needed. .MPG: Who cares said the dealer when I was looking at these cars 8yrs ago. My average for 4k miles for driving 17.2mpg. but I drive it pretty hard, not like a jack*ss, but with some authority. My brother owned a mid 80's and stated it did not matter if he babied it or hammered it, it only was 1 mpg different , so DRIVE it if you buy it. .I have had no issues except it does run WARM on the temp gauge about 220 in L.A. so I put a low temp thermostat and it dropped about 10 degrees $ 250 upgrade. lots of chatter on this subject, you decide. Tires $ 250 ea for the good ones every 40k miles. . Wife loves it, my adult boys think dad is a stud. Friends are impressed - wow a " Porsche " they don’t know its $20k in their mind you’re a millionaire, and they drive a 60k Lexus.
Let’s face it your buying a Logo on a fun, iconic , timeless car. you could spend your money on a lot of dumber stuff, so if you take care of it , you might break even. or a slight profit. I know one thing. if I pay 20k for a car, spend 2k on maintenance, I am in for $ 22k over 3yrs, I decide to sell it and get $ 15k my cost to drive is $ 200 per month
When can you lease any car for $ 200 a month ?
Be safe and enjoy the ride. I smile all the time once it starts - warmed it up before driving is what my mechanic told me.
Washing the Car is Awesome fun. You feel like, yeah I’m that guy. What does that dude do for a living . wow
hope this helps. If you can afford to buy up to the 997 2005+ its about $5k more, do it, I’ll move up in a few years. Last tidbit, join your Porsche PCA club, its really fun, they have shows, monthly magazine in print, and track events. Well worth the $50 a year.
