My Aztek has been good to me

"I bought my Aztek in 2005, it was 2 years old and had 33,000 miles on it. Just at the tail end of its factory warranty. I had one very minor interior issue replaced. (the shifter track was bunching up, they replaced it for free and it has not given me trouble since) I now have 178,690 miles on it. This has been the most reliable car I've ever owned. The body still has no rust. Not a speck. i wash and wax the car regularly, and I am a firm believer that waxing you car is very important to preserving your clear coat, and paint. I think the suspension is a work of art. It's a 4 wheel independent suspension with struts in the front and shocks in the rear, but the control arm design is fascinating, yet simple. The All-Wheel-Drive (Versatrack) works quite well. I have driven through some pretty nasty snow and mud, and never even come close to getting stuck. Last winter I drove through a snowstorm where I passed many cars stuck in the snow. Here is what I've done over the last 9 years: Oil Changes- religiously at 3,000 miles. I now use synthetic, but at first just used the cheapest conventional oil. This is the #1 most important thing you can do with GM's 3.4L V6. Battery (normal, they don't last forever) Alternator - I found out later, it was the battery, I doubt I needed to replace the alternator. CV Shaft - The boot tore (probably from an object in the road), so I just replaced the whole CV shaft. Front Struts - normal wear Rear Shocks - normal wear Right front ball joint Brake pads and rotors - normal wear Power Steering pump - the pump was ok, but the reservoir cracked and was leaking fluid. Transmission Fluid and filter changes - I went way too long on this, changed it at 121,000 miles, so I changed it again in 2 weeks to be safe. The 4T65-E transmission is a real workhorse of a transmission, as long as you take care of it. I'll probably change the fluid and filter again this summer, just to be safe. Rear Differential fluid - Versatrak fluid is expensive, and I'm not sure I really needed to do it. Control Arm Bushing - Most control arm bushings have rubber in the center, as mine does. The rubber wore out, and then it started making a noise. But it was an easy fix. Wheel hub assembly, all 4. This is my only real complaint about GM's design on my Aztek. They just seem to wear out. If you change one, the axle nut MUST be torqued to spec, or slightly below. The ones that I did not torque to spec (I used an impact on the axle nuts) I got to do again. Rear Hatch lift supports. The rear hatch is very heavy, and I suspect GM should have used a stronger lift support. Every time I think about getting a newer car, I change my mind. This car simply has not given me a good enough reason to get rid of it. It just keeps going and going. Sometimes I take the back seats out and use it to haul mulch or firewood. Everything works. The A/C still works great, cruise control, stereo, power mirrors, windows, ABS, AWD, etc... The body style, highly ridiculed over the years has come full circle. If you look at the newer crossovers (I still say the Aztek is the original crossover), most of them share some resemblance to the Aztek. I don't mind the body style. The car has been an amazing workhorse, and up until last year when we bought a minivan, it was our road trip vehicle. There is a ton of space in this car too. I'm really not sure when I'm going to sell it, if at all. It just keeps on working."

"Gets around in snow and bad weather very well. Plenty of room for each personand for storage. Good gas mileage and make great road trip vehicle. Center councel in between front seats and the hooks in the trunk area could use some redesigning to add covience and use of wastered space. Over all has been my favorite vehicle."
