"Purchased pre-owned 8 years/88k miles ago (now up to 111k). The engine has a very high operating temperature (the "normal" line on the temp gauge is close to the red "too hot" area). Consequently, the engine overheats rather easily; to offset this, I haven't run the AC in years, and instead actually turn on the heater during summer months/heavy traffic to lower the engine temp (I roll down the windows for fresh air instead). In a related issue, winter months require a long warmup period before use.
Despite this inconvenience, the gas mileage is quite reasonable for a commuter type vehicle, typically getting me almost 30 mpg highway/23 mpg city. (Summer months have about a 2-3 mpg better rating than winter.) Outstanding acceleration and braking, handling is smooth--everything you could ask for to get you to work and back.
Taking the family is a little less comfy--if they squeeze, I can fit two carseats and my 1st grader across the backseat. Seats are low, causing my pregnant wife fits getting in or out, but the seats themselves are soft and comfy. Luggage area is surprisingly roomy enough for multiple suitcases or a full set of golf clubs.
I experienced virtually zero mechanical issues until I hit 110k miles, at which point multiple trips to the mechanic were in order. However, all the parts in question--drive belt, starter, alternator, power steering--can be considered routine wear-and-tear replacements, it just was inconvenient when they all went out almost at the same time. But once they were replaced I haven't had any issues again for a few thousand miles, and plan to continue driving this car into the ground, which may not happen for another 7-8 years. By contrast, my wife is on her third vehicle since I purchased this Achieva."
