I owned and sold this car
Reason: Engine Failed - My approximate mileage is 209,000
Pros: "Comfortable"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 8
"I picked up a 1998 Olds 88 for the ridiculous price of $700 in July 2010. Before I even got to the car, from a distance I said to myself that I wanted it. The body was in great shape which is not always the case here in upstate New York for a 12 year old car. I did have to put some money into it; belt, brakes, etc. but it ran very well and was comfortable. My first 'big' car. It had some issues, mostly cosmetic however so I could live with those. I think things started to go bad when I decided to use Sea Foam inside the engine to loosen up some of the accumulated crud. I've always changed oil regularly in all my cars, but here was one case where I put off having my mechanic pull the oil pan to replace the gasket. The leak was minor so I could live with it. Big, big mistake. The engine failed me one day and when I had my mechanic pull the pan, there was the accumulated crud in the bottom of the pan and the pickup screen was almost completely clogged. I had spun #2 bearing and chewed up the crank. For me, it would have been cheap insurance to have paid the 2 bills to have it taken care of sooner. Live and learn...."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 67,000
overall rating 9 of 10rating detailsPros: "Electronic dashboard and gauges, nice ride."
Cons: "None really."
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10
"Just picked this up for a price I couldn't pass up. Bought it to get by until our transmission was fixed in our other car. However, this car drives and rides so nice I am going to make it my every day driver! One owner until me, and original miles. Everything works on it including all the computer stuff and electronics! Had the oil changed and the guys at the shop couldn't believe the steal I got it for.....and the condition it was in. Not my kind of car....but can't quit driving it. A+"

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 130,000
overall rating 8 of 10rating detailsPros: "Price, smooth ride, comfortable"
Cons: "Ugly"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 7
"This car is not very pretty, in fact the carpet interior is down right aweful. However, it is very comfortable and is a smooth ride. It has been fairly reliable. I had to fix some things when I got it but that is too be expected of a used car that is this old and to be fair it makes noises and lets you know when something is wrong. It also feels pretty safe, and I have never had any safty issues with the car. Over all it works and is a great car for the value!"

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 134,700
overall rating 8 of 10rating detailsPros: "Pleasure to drive; roomy and reasonable gas milage"
Cons: "Sometimes shakes from a light."
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9
"This car floats down the road with a dreamy factory stereo to add its comfort. I have recently bought this vehicle from a local lot and was somewhat skeptical from past experiences with local lots. However, this time I was very pleasantly suprised and almost felt guilty about negotiating a lower price from the dealer for this car. An Olds 88 was my first car and it may well be my last. I embrace every mile that I drive in this vehicle."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 101,000
overall rating 10 of 10rating detailsPros: "roomy and V6 has great power"
Cons: "gas gauge broken :("
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10
"I got this car from my dad in 2006. I love the V6 and the power. It is reliable and roomy. Exterior has very few marks, but the car wash a month ago took the stripes off the trunk door. Only thing that does not work is gas gauge. It likes to stick at the top or bottom from time to time. Must keep alert to when I last filled up. I am checking on value because my dad is going in to assisted living apartment and wants to give me his 2006 Ford Focus. I will take it, but now need to do something with the Olds. It still has a long life ahead of it."
