"I've had this car for just over and year and have put 20,000 miles on it including freeway and off-road driving. I had to camp for 2 months for work and I'm glad I had it. It gets a little squirrely on dirt roads in two wheel drive but if you put it in four it's great. The gas mileage isn't great. It's a good in between size SUV, larger than a Ford Escape/Explorer but smaller than a large SUV. Lots of costly repairs and hard to get to sensors needed replacing at around the 110k mile mark and I had to pay $200 to have the roof upholstery put back up. Overall I recommend this vehicle for somebody who needs it for many purposes but not an every day city traffic commuter car."

"I bought it new in 2004. Other than a pully shaft under the engine being replaced (cost about 500.) I have had no problems. 4 wheel drive is nice to have."

"I bought my 2001 Xterra SE in 2008 for $7K as a work vehicle and fell in love with it. For the money it has been a great value. It's been pretty beat up (by me and my fam) cosmetically but no major mechanical issues and still running strong at 165K miles. Granted this car has a lot of road noise and a few minor rattles after being driven hard for 15 years but I don't regret buying it one minute. I was pleasantly surprised to see it's still valued at around $3K, too."

"I am about to absolve myself of my trusty Xterra after 15 years and 2 weeks of ownership and drive time. She sits in the driveway facing her 2015 Nissan Frontier replacement, reflecting back when she replaced a 1992 Nissan Sentra. Anyway, this truck was one reliable piece of transportation and worth every penny I paid. She handled Michigan winters, living without a garage since 2006. Always started (reliable), always ran, was fun to drive, hauled everything under the sun, towed trailers and U-Hauls with ease, took a few cross country trips. A/C, power windows and locks, rear defroster, etc all still work. Handy 2nd stick shift for 4x4 engagement. Bounced back from me wrecking her 3x yet was never in the shop otherwise until very late in life. Kudos Nissan, well done on this one."
