Pros: "Unbelievably reliable"

Cons: "big turning radius"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9

"It is amazingly reliable. I bought the car used when it was about 2-years old from a car rental place. I had to initially have the brakes fixed, but have no no other mechanical issues. I've had the car for about 8 years, and put about 100,000 miles on it, but I've had no mechanical issues (really!). I've only had to replace the battery once, replace the headlights once, replace the tires, and of course the windshield wipers. That's it! Note - I run synthetic oil in it, and don't change it as often as I should. I had a Toyota previously which I liked much better, mainly because The Toyota had a much smaller turning radius. It is surprising how often that comes into play. I also found the Toyota easier to park than the Nissan because you can see the corners of the car better on the Toyota. If I wasn't comparing it to a Toyota it would be an excellent car."

For a first car, I LOVE IT

"I have been driving a 2005 Nissan Sentra 1.8S since July of 2014. A 16 year old with a license, my mom gave it to me as she bought a 2014 Corolla. This car is awesome! It is fun to drive, and super comfy! Handling is smooth and is efficient on gas. It's been a year and I love driving this thing! I'm really going to miss it when I'm off to college next year in 2016."

Pros: "Gr8 on gas, affordable, reliable & handles well"

Cons: "Not a very smooth riding car ONLY COMPLAINT"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"Have owned a 2005 Nissan Sentra for 6 years and it has been the most mechanically sound car I've ever owned! Only once has this car been in the shop and that was a simple affordable repair.(In layman terms; a switch had to be replaced - when you push the gas pedal, it signals the computer or whatever for the car to go.) This car has given me a lot of faith in Nissan!"

Pros: "Reliable in all temps, safe, easy to drive & park."

Cons: "Not a hatchback, not an off road vehicle."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"This has been the best vehicle I've ever owned. Purchased used in 2009 for around $4,000, it has never dumped me on the side of the road. It has started easily & reliably in all weather, driven through MN winters and always kept us safe. I've hit too many big potholes on MN roads to count and even carefully driven it off road a little bit, so it's taken a beating. After 6 years of safety and reliability, I feel guilty for selling it now. It has good gas mileage and handles well, even while sliding on icy roads I've been able to calmly straighten out without a scratch every time. Parking is easy with this small car, though it was always even easier with super tiny cars I've owned. Nissan Sentras have timing chain, not belts, and that has never needed to be repaired or replaced. The only thing I haven't liked about this vehicle is that it's not a hatchback and it is too low to the ground to drive off road on anything bumpy, which is why I gave it a 9 out of 10 in design. You can fold down the back seats but there is only a small opening between the trunk and back seats which seems designed for you to crawl into the car through if you're kidnapped and trapped in the trunk. It's not a feature which allows you to haul really huge things with. The trunk, however, is square and roomy for groceries and other small things along those lines. I lost part of the undercarriage of this vehicle when I drove it through an ice and snow packed, deeply rutted alleyway in Minneapolis. The car got caught on the high part of the heavily packed ice and snow, it couldn't be shoveled out and part of the undercarriage finally ripped off. Another piece was lost while slowly & briefly driving the car in a field one summer. This is a car you should only drive on roads, and not where the snow or ice chunks are higher than the bottom of the car. So at 14 or 15 years old and after 213,000 miles driven in all seasons & road conditions in MN with no accidents, this car now needs the following repairs which I've decided not to complete: Mechanic says the fuel tank leaks but I haven't had any loss of fuel. The exhaust pipe has rusted away from the flange to the muffler. The left front spring is broken. The coolant is leaking heavily. The windshield wiper fluid tank fell off two years ago. The tie rod is loose and the front links are broken off. Last year the passenger window got stuck so we closed it and sealed it shut. The check engine light has been on since I bought it in 2009."

Pros: "Reliable, great mileage, low care, comfy"

Cons: "Body paint, plastic fittings, tire maintenance"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9

"I've owned my 2001 Nissan for 10 years now and can honestly say, out of the four previous cars I've used and/or owned, this has been the best experience. With minor care- mostly in tire issues and some fluid hoses (air intake and A/C)- I've been able to run over 200K miles on my car. That it's lived through at least four different states and it still be in working order without me having to be at the auto shop every month is amazing! Plus, it has seen me through bumper accidents (plural), only one of which a car actually damaged it by backing into the corner of my bumper and so ripping one side loose. Compared to my first car, in which the bumper shattered upon light impact, I count that a win! Although the plastics used in this car are not ideal (TX heat made sun roof sliding handle brittle, for ex.) and, as others have said, the body does tend to wear a bit (some repainting usually needed about every 6-8 years with this car, and had some repeated issues with tire deflation due to wearing on inside of a tire), I would definitely recommend this car to new drivers, economy drivers, or even regular travelers as it's reliable, gas friendly, and has very easy steering. Great price too! Just wish it held value a bit more. Next car will either be another Nissan or a Honda with similar specs."
