KBB Editors' Overview

By Keith Buglewicz - Updated Date: 6/13/2014

Midsize family sedans are the heart of the new-car market, accounting for a huge number of sales each year. Every manufacturer wants a slice of that pie, and it's not uncommon for the Nissan Altima to have one of the biggest slices, after the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, of course. The 2015 Nissan Altima offers a handful of subtle upgrades to keep it in the hunt, such as slightly better fuel economy for the 3.5-liter V6, and expanded availability of NissanConnect, the manufacturer's app suite. All of this comes in a car that offers up lots of interior space, a classy design, and premium materials throughout the handsome cabin.

You'll Like This Car If...

The 2015 Nissan Altima offers all the "best-of" benefits of a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord, but without the midsize-sedan "me-too" factor that inevitably comes with buying one of those cars. The fact that it delivers excellent fuel economy and subtly cool styling is icing on the cake.

You May Not Like This Car If...

While the Altima is fuel efficient, there's no hybrid or diesel offering to tempt the greenest buyers. The Altima also gives up some features compared to its rivals.

What's New for 2015

Introduced last year, Nissan has expanded the availability of its apps-driven infotainment system known as NissanConnect, making it standard equipment on Altima SV and SL models. The V6 also gets a one-mpg bump in fuel economy.

Driving It Driving Impressions

The 2015 Nissan Altima's key selling point may be its driving dynamics. Without giving up any of its mainstream family-car duties, this midsize sedan nonetheless manages to impart a measure of driving fun that's uncommon in the segment. Its multilink independent suspension and best-in-class continuously variable automatic transmission will convince you that Nissan engineers are truthful when they say they benchmarked premium sedans like the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series. While a bit stiff on the harshest surfaces, the Nissan Altima won't beat you up around town while remaining nimble enough on mountain roads to be, dare we say, fun. The powerful 3.5-liter V6 is the obvious enthusiast choice, but the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder is more than adequate for light loads and level roads. The unique multifunction rearview camera performed its lookout jobs well, and the NASA-inspired seats proved as fatigue-reducing as claimed.

Favorite Features

EASY FILL TIRE ALERT
Falling squarely into the why-didn't-anybody-think-of-this-before category is the Nissan Altima's Easy Fill Tire Alert. Using the tire pressure monitoring system – standard on all cars since 2007 – the Altima's horn honks and the lights flash to let you know you've added enough air to the tires.

NISSANCONNECT
There's no question we love our handheld gadgets, and manufacturers are scrambling to bring mobile connectivity to the driver's seat. NissanConnect lets Altima SV and SL owners use things like Facebook. To avoid distractions, the keyboard sensibly locks out when you're driving.
