Pros: "roomy, sporty for a 4cyl, average reliability"

Cons: "its not toyota reliable"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 7

"I have had 97 Altima stick shift and 1999 altima automatic. This review is for my current one, 99 GXE automatic. Overall, the vehicle is roomy for all passengers and has decent trunk space. The car is peppy and handles highway speeds well. The ride is bumpy but acceleration and steering are adequate for commuting. I bought it at 50k miles and have put another 40k miles on it in three years with long commutes. It only died once, when the battery died on me. I have replaced- alternator, waterpump, battery, inexpensive steering components, valve cover gasket (oil leak), trunk latch, keychain remote died (did not replace), master window control module, sound system and currently the engine light is on for EVAP issues, which the mechanic has let ride for now. The rear frame had a rust hole which needed welding. I stay on top of fluid replacements (trans, brake, oil) and I am aware of the intake manifold issues from my 97, which i expect to happen on my 99 shortly. Its reliable, but i always know something will be needed at inspection other than basic stuff so I can't call it bulletproof like other honda, suburus and toyotas I have had prior. But, i do drive alot, drive it hard and i knew what I was getting my I bought the 2nd one. Altima is more fun to drive than camry and civic. So, if you get the car for a decent price and it has service records, it will work out for you if you go into to it expecting to spend some money every year."

Pros: "Drives smoothly, vert dependable car, fast pick up"

Cons: "egr code keeps poppong up eletrical issue when wet"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 8

my good side but this is her, other side mild bump and few scratches rear fender nothing huge though now could use paint, window tint and spoiler

"I have had to put alot of minor jobs put into it, replaced power steering pump, put on all new eagkle rsa recently, new spark plugs and anul about oil changese on time! I love the pick up speed when getting onto highway, like how it drives smoothly and fast, also with great breaks....GLE Model is the waty to go , I have black on black which is beautiful but can easily be a major up keep. So other than power steeriong system issues and some strange electrical issues that occur after rain or water getting into somewhere or maybe just the fuses are lose? Have had EGR problems that will not let me be but I refuse to pay and get a cad conv because I have had to do one on pone of my jeeps in the past only because it was very much needed, you cant even hear when my car is parked and running nm does the cad convertwer act up....I dont know , I have had some issues but nothing huge and I have 174k almost and would prob just suggest a tune up and cosmetically making it look better as well as loook into electrical issues and check sensor, maybe false reading???"

Pros: "pick up ,dependability, comfort"

Cons: "need more space up front for extra items."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I have leased/owned altima's for the last 20 years. Best feature of this car is the pick up. When merging onto a highway you can rely on this car to get you going. It has been extremely reliable, even through the past few extreme NY winters, I never worried that my car wouldn't start in the morning. It never crossed my mind because it never happened. If you get this car serviced once a year, you can count on reliable and comfortable transportation for many years."

Pros: "fun to drive, reliable, comfortable, spacious"

Cons: "low front bumper, windows get stuck"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9

"I got this car as a family 'hand me down' in 2011 with about 130k miles on it. Since I got it I haven't had any significant issues! It runs great and it's never broken down or stalled out. Great acceleration. The catalytic converter and a few other things have been replaced throughout the years but nothing unfixable. The only issues the car has had are 'cosmetic'... my passenger side window got stuck down and is currently duck taped up (had to cut the belt to move it) and some of the windows get stuck or squeak loudly sometimes. Also, the lever to open trunk/fuel tank broke so I have to open my gas tank through the trunk. The front bumper is also very low so I've had to get it repaired often because of curbs/steep hills (my own fault)... Havent had any problems with the actual performance so far and it gets me to where I need to go and has survived many many roadtrips... hope to have many more years with this car!"

Pros: "Reliable AND fun to drive 5spd SE model."

Cons: "City gas mileage could be better."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"Bought this car brand new and it has never let me down. Just usual maintenance and battery replacement thru the years. Just now finally had to replace a couple of things on it: water pump and valve cover seal gasket(changed plugs and plug wire w/ that). Plus power steering high pressure hose finally gave out last yr. The car's 14yrs. old, so, to be expected. Love driving it w/ the manual 5spd. Not sure how an automatic would have held out. It pains me to have to even think about the day i HAVE to trade it in."
