"Sadly, I only had my 2004 Eclipse GT for 13 months before I was involved in a high speed collision and my car was totaled. A 24-foot Budget rental truck merged into my driver's side door at 60mph and I then spun around the front of the truck and hit the concrete median of the highway. The front tire of the truck ended up running over right behind where my head was located, and the back tires ran over the hood of my car since I spun about 270 degrees. The paramedics were amazed that I only had scrapes, bruises and some soreness. One even said they need to get an Eclipse for their daughter after seeing how I made it out of the wreckage. The car had great handling and enough kick to the engine to make driving on high ways very fun while also feeling secure. If I could find another one in as excellent condition as this one was, I would not hesitate to buy it. The things I didn't really like were the placement of the cup holders because they always got in the way since mine was a manual transmission, and the lack of an audio input. But that you can't really find standard in older cars."

Cons: "No blue tooth or navigation, low tech, old school"

"I bought this car out of college and LOVED driving it. We drove it to South Carolina from PA a couple times, also all over PA. It gets great gas mileage has decent trunk space for a coupe and even hauled my first born until it became apparent that it was not really designed to haul car seats. We used it as a commuter for some time but decided our 2 mile commutes to work were just not worth keeping the car on our insurance. We are sad to let it go. It has been so good to us."

"I have 2001 Spyder Eclipse (convertible). I love the look of the car, and I bought it with 108k Los Angeles miles (which are pretty rough on a car). However, it served me pretty well over the past few years in LA. It has started having its issues at 140-150,000 miles. Power windows started burning out, convertible top motor burned out, and I am in the process of having to replace the water pump. I also notice is is starting to shifts gears kinda rough these days. So, its ready to retire. However, I think it would have had another 15-20k miles before it reached this point if it hadnt spent its life in LA's brutal traffic (and possibly if I had invested in a bit more preventative maintenance also). Overall, it demanded very little maintenance up to this point. It's true that it is quite small, and you'd expect a little better gas mileage for a car 4 cylinder car that small. However, it isnt intended to be a family car. For a single girl in LA, it was the perfect car for me."

Pros: "Amazing value, fun to drive, trunk like hatchback"

Cons: "Cheap build, rattles, weird transmission"

"I bought a 2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse about 8 months ago. It had one previous adult owner and is in really nice shape. I paid just over $6000 for it. For that price, I don't feel I should be too critical. It really is amazing value for that kind of money. Here are some things to consider. -I have a manual and gearing is bizarre. 1st and 2nd seem normal. 3rd is a bit weak, closer to a 4th gear. 4th and 5th have very little power a feel like a big jump from the lower gears. I think this is for gas millage (which is great). If you put the pedal to the floor while in 5th gear, at 55 nothing happens. I mean nothing. You have to leave the pedal on the floor for a while before the car makes any significant speed gains. If you drop into 4th to pass someone, it struggles. Tons of power in the low gears, but as you go up, it is all about gas millage. After 8 months, I still have a terrible time shifting smoothly. Never had this problem before. I feel like a new driver lurching at shifts. I have owned lots of manuals and have 2 others currently. My transmission may need service. -My other major complaint is all the rattling inside. There are buzzes and rattles everywhere. It has a cheap feel to it in all areas, but it was really cheap to buy. -All things considered, I think it is a good little car, but low price comes at the cost of refinement and quality."

Pros: "Reliable, plenty of power and room"

Cons: "Wide turning radius, interior plastic marks easily"

"Have owned a 2004 Spyder GT since 2005. No problems, yet! Just routine service. Bought an extended warranty not knowing how reliable this car would be but I never needed it. Looks almost like new. The only annoying thing has been the poor turning radius but, you learn to deal with it. Does not seem to go out of style - people still ask if I would like to sell it."

"bought this in 2006 with 32k miles on it. Never spent a penny on it outside regular maintenance and tires until 2014. Had all maintenance done at 100k miles. Only problem have had a slow anti freeze leak and can't find it. Love this car except that it is noisey on inside when driving."
