I own this car - My approximate mileage is 160,000
overall rating 9 of 10rating detailsPros: "great price, good gas mileage, reliable, stylish"
Cons: "Seats can become uncomfortable on long trips"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9
"I have had this car for about a year now, and it is the most reliable car that I have owned yet. The gentleman that owned it before me took great care of it, and it shows! as long as you take good care of this car, it will take care of you... I plan to keep mine until it can't run anymore. The bucket seats don't quite agree with me on very long drives. I Drove from Tulsa, OK to Austin, TX and my tailbone would hurt when I drove without a break. Otherwise, I have no complaints!"

Cons: "the whole car"

"Purchased August 2012 for my daughter for $1800. The engine light was on within the week. Multiple sensor replaced over & over. New alternater, battery, sensor etc. As soon as one thing is fixed the engine light is back on within hours. The paint is pealing all over - the interior is torn. It looks like they tinted the headlights and they are peeling as well??! The heat and a/c work on and off after beating the dash board- generally doesn't work. There is nothing good about this car. Thought so after I did some research when the engine light came on - then I read reviews. Today in excellent condition it is worth $1100-but its in poor condition with the exception of the new tires I put on it. New timing belt is $700 + and they expect there will be other problems when that is fixed. The girl who sold it off craigs listed played me well along with her Navy husband. I thought they were honest people - they were aware she was far away from home on her own and worked late nights and needed something reliable. I guess I assumed since my son is in the military that they were honest people too. I read a review last year that said junk it - will put more in and it will never run. Should have listed - if you're reading this - LISTEN. Its been a nightmare and I don't have the money for another one and I won't be dishonest to get rid of it!!"

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 170,000

Cons: "uncomfortable for long trips"

"I own a 99 Cougar VCT 2.0 with the mtx-75 transmission. The car has everything in just the right spot. The shifting is phenominal, the power even the 2.0 is crazy. Maybe that's just because i have a VCT instead of a zetec engine but it is a very good car. the thing with this car is though, you need to take care of it. I know people who had them and killed them in less then a year and bash the name and others who have had them from brand new off the lot running 300,000 miles and going strong. Any car you take care of will be good. Typical problems with this car are rear struts, wheel bearings, syncronizer in 3rd gear, and if not maintained, the head gasket. I have personally replaced all of these and it has been a pain but it was worth it because this is a great, clean looking, fast, fun and respectable car. The only thing i would change is the layout of the interior a slight bit. Mainly the seats. It is uncomfortable to take on long trips."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 125,000
overall rating 8 of 10rating detailsPros: "Sporty, comfortable, great mileage"
Cons: "Have had to put some money into misc repairs"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9
"I am the seceond owner of this 2002 Cougar and purchased it about 3 years ago with 91,000 miles to use for commuting since my other vehicle doesn't get great mileage and I didn't want to put a lot of miles on it. The cougar is very comfortable and gets great mileage, freeway is about 30 and in town mid 20s. The previous owner had hit something with it damaging the front bumper a bit and crimping the rear axle support so we had to replace that and two rear tires. We have also had some weird surging issues that we've tried to resolve by replacing fuel pump and EGR valve and related components. Still having the issue but she keeps on going. Sharp looking car...I'll be selling it soon and will miss it. I do wish Mercury was still in productiaon and making this car. The ford mustang just doesn't have the same look."

"I owned this car for approx. 3 months. Dumped more money in it than the overall worth of the car. Transmission has issue in this year and model. Save your time, money, and stress. Look elsewhere for a vehicle."

"I bought this car about a year ago with 142k on the clock since then I have only had to put a little bit of suspension work oil changes and new tires on her. This is the most reliable car ive owned out of all 5. I will drive this car till the day she dies. Oh yeah and she still has the stock clutch with 205k on the clock. I love it!!!!!"
