The Mercedes-Benz GL-Class sees some big changes for 2015, starting under the hood. The GL450 4Matic receives a new biturbo V6 engine with the same horsepower as the outgoing V8, but with better fuel economy. Stop/start technology is added to all trims except the GL350 BlueTEC 4Matic, and some special order items return to the regular options list.
2013 marks the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. This luxury SUV that's built in Alabama now has a slightly larger exterior and redesigned interior, more powerful and fuel-efficient engines, and standard safety systems such as collision prevention assist, which employs radar to warn the driver of a potential crash.
For 2012, the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class carries over largely unchanged. The interior has received minor tweaks and adjustments, including directional lines for the rearview camera. All GL-Class models now feature LED daytime running lights as standard equipment.
The GL350 BlueTEC and GL450 receive a freshened front and rear end, trapezoidal exhaust tips and redesigned front and rear skid plates. Inside, the GL offers new seats, burl walnut trim and a revised instrument cluster. The GL550 receives only minor changes as well as ambient interior lighting and LED daytime running lights.
The GL320 CDI is replaced by the GL320 BlueTEC, which is available in all 50 states. Mercedes-Benz's PRE-SAFE occupant protection system and a new radio head unit are made standard on all trims, while the GL550 receives Keyless Go as standard equipment.
In a category whose sales are dominated by three-row offerings, Mercedes joins the club in a bigfor a German nameplateway. Dimensionally, the Mercedes GL450 trumps its sibling, the M-Class, as well as offerings from BMW, Land Rover and Lexus. It also supplies Mercedes' Alabama plant with a three-pronged product (M-Class, R-Class and GL) strategy, enhancing both plant volume and plant flexibility.
As the largest SUV to wear the 3-pointed Mercedes-Benz star, the luxurious GL-Class for 2015 delivers all the utility of a family-friendly SUV and combines it with the styling, performance and interior opulence of the finest S-Class sedan. The GL's reputation for excellence is bolstered by impeccable build quality, enviable safety ratings and a sophisticated suspension that delivers one of the most comfortable yet dynamic rides of any full-size luxury crossover SUV. The big Benz offers a variety of powertrain choices including an all-new twin-turbocharged V6 and a fuel-efficient diesel. And, unlike many luxury SUVs derived from more mainstream platforms, the 2015 GL-Class shares no such pedigree. It's pure Mercedes-Benz through and through, which is one more reason the GL-Class SUV is held in such high regard.

"My wife and I have owned the 2013 GL450 for 1 year and we both admit that it's the best car that we have ever owned. Quality both inside and outside defines this vehicle. At 75mph the 3 ton gentle beast sails as smooth as a hovercraft over calm water while the cabin is quieter than a whisper. Awesome steering at both low and high speeds. I can't think of a production car that I would feel more safe in. Negatives include a complex infotainment system that takes some serious study to take advantage of all the high tech amazing tricks. Also for a car this large, there are only 2 usable HVAC vents that serve the entire 2nd and 3rd row. If you are in the "wayback" during the summer, you will be sweating . Nevertheless if you have the means to afford this vehicle, it is a pure joy to travel the long road. Of note, there are hard to find since demand is high and supply is low. Not too many seen on the roads, so it turns many heads and serves as a topic of conversation on the parking lot frequently."

"I have owned the Diesel version for about 3 months now, after trading up from my 98 ML320 SUV with over 190,000 miles. This new "Truck" is one of the best cars that I have ever owned (My other car is a 95 S320 with over 250,000 Miles). I am getting over 28mpg on the highway with plenty of torque when needed (it is actually faster to 60mph than my 1968 Porsche 911 Targa). When you are driving it on a trip, it is the kind of car that so enevelops you with security and comfort that you don't want the trip to end. In summary - a fantastic piece of engineering!"
