"I have owned seven (7) Mercedes of various models, including three (3) "E Class" cars. My current 2002 E320 is a perfect example of how these cars have declined and are continuing to decline in quality, reliability and value. Although much like many other vehicles of its age, a large percentage of the car is made with plastic, however, for the price point that a Mercedes represents, you would hope to find the use of a better quality material. As a result, most plastic items have broken. The shocking outcome was to find that the cost of the replacement parts were astronomical, even though it was merely plastic. The vehicle currently has approximately 65,000 miles, however, given the amount of items that are either broken or have already been replaced on the vehicle, you would think it had over 200,000 miles. The list of replacement items is as follows:
Transmission Rebuilt due to slipping
A/C Receiver Dryer
Blower Motor Regulator
All Catalytic Converters (4)
Both Visor Mirror Doors
Drivers Seat Frame
Antenna for the Radio/Navigation System
Cup Holder in Console
Drive Train Flex Disc
Brake Discs on All Four Wheels (Pads I would expect.)
Glove Box Door
Tail Light Bulb Mounts both sides
And so on…. and so on….
To me Mercedes no longer stands for quality and dependability. What they are producing in my opinion are vehicles that represent “Less for More”. Never again will I buy one of these cars!!!!"
"Great Vehicle,I bought one with a blown transmission for a steal, replaced it and have never had to replece anything after that.I have always wanted to own a Benz and love the German engineering.Awesome vehicle.Very affordable maintanence.Average price for a tune -up $185/Brakes $150/Oil change $45."
"For the money this vehicle has been great. 33MPG The best ride. Have driven Lexus, Cadillac, and Lincoln. This car out handles and rides better than the others. Low maintenance costs. Other than replacing some injector return lines and the brakes this car has been inexpensive to operate. 130K and no rattles or wind noise."
"This is the poorest quality automobile we have ever owned. Problems are too numerous to list, and repair costs have been ridiculous. Car has been very unreliable, and this is with full program maintenance. There is always a problem with vehicle immediately after service also. Note: I wrote MB 3X regarding dissatisfaction, and finally only received a response saying "problems happen". Very dissatisfied with MB as a company also."
"I am the original owner and have enjoyed this car immensely. Except for normal wear and tear (tire replacement), the only problem in the first five years was a battery replacement which was done under warranty. I followed the scheduled maintainence/service program. Car has plenty of pickup still and is extremely dependable--driven almost every weekday for 7 years except vacation."
