"I've owned this car nearly 15 years and had relatively no problems with it. Tranny replaced, timing belt replaced, and that's pretty much it. It just rolled over to 188,000 miles and still going strong! They don't make them like this anymore. I anticipate I'll have this car 20 years before it finally gives out... maybe more!"

Pros: "This has been the best car I've ever owned!"

Cons: "No rear seat cup holders, hard to work on yourself"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 8

"I bought this car used back in 2002 or 2003. It had 36000 miles (now has 195950) when I bought it. This has been the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. Other than some normal minor repairs (brakes, shocks, oil changes) it has held up very well! Even my mechanic was shocked when the original clutch FINALLY went out only 5 years ago. I didn't know they still made reliable cars like this one has been for me! A+ to Mazda on this car! The only down side to this car is that it's hard to do things like change your own oil because the motor is so compact...but it seems like everybody is making their cars like that now so that you have to take it to somebody (they hope you bring it to them) for regular work. And there are no rear seat cup holders...kinda a pain if you have kids who sit in the backseat."

Pros: "Good price"

"Truly owned by a little old lady from Seaside. This is my Mom's car that she has been driving no more than 5 miles from her home for the last 5 years. Just had a tune up. Runs very well. Could use new tires."

This Mazda has been well maintained.

Pros: "It's a great car for the price"

Cons: "has no extra's"

"If your looking for a good car, this Mazda runs great. All ways had oil and fluid changed when need'ed. The car has new front struts, brakes all 4 wheels. Having a DVD player put in this week. All the lights work, the tiers are all good.Just had emission past a few weeks a go. If your looking for a car that you can depend on, come check this car. Oh and the gas millage is fantastic 22 around town 31 on highway. Just so you know the car is a plain Jane, meaning no power windows,or moon roof. It's just a great car."

Pros: "Fun to drive, Surprising acceleration, MX-5 engine"

Cons: "flimsy knobs, prone to rust"

"This car, after 80,000 miles of abuse from my dad, is still driving like brand new. He took it in to get serviced about once every 20,000 miles. With a little compassion, this car is back to being like new, as it should be, being a Japanese car."

"I'm getting ready to trade in my 2003 Mazda Protege. I bought it new and have loved it for years. It's been through a lot - driven many miles by myself and also my son once he turned 16. Local roads, highways, long trips, camping... This was the last year they made the Protege. I wish they still had a car with its simple design, maybe a little more squared off than newer cars now. Yes, you feel the bumps in this car, but it's a great car to run around in, zippy, easy to park, good pickup. And it even has an ashtray (unused, but nice to have, stock) and a lighter! My 6 disc cd changer broke several years ago and it's now running into the normal older car problems which is why I'm trading it. But, even with it's problems, I still love the car!"
