"After reading about this van and things that can go wrong, I bought one with 119500 miles on it. I bought it because the transmission was already rebuilt which after reading that is the major problem. As soon as I got this van I drove it home and what happen was the check engine light went right on. I took it to my local shop who I trust and come to find out the owners brother works for Mazda and the only thing was the pc valve hose which you have to buy threw the dealer at 100. The shop only changed me 100 to put it in and off I went. He said that the van as long as it's kept up on will last for many years should hit 200k with no problem. So all in all I got a great deal on it."
Pros: "I found the drivers seat hight very comfortable"
Cons: "miss diagnosed offten"

"I can't begin to express my feelings on the mechanics miss diagnosing this car over and over! the first time I had an issue I was told it was the water pump, the 2nd time I was told it was the head gasket! I was told to "junk it not worth fixing" by 2 different shops knowing a little about cars I didn't feel that was true so I took it to a friends shop (I know why not first stop but towing and such played into it) anyway he said the same thing needs head, so I parked it in front of my house for months ignoring it until one day I said I want to check it myself one more time before I call the junk man. SOOO glad I did I found no oil on my water and no water in my oil also no smoke or water in the tail pipe so I thought hmmm maybe its the water pump again, witch I never though was an issue the first time but hey better then the head. I ran it in the driveway and it overheated as usual, so I started to pull the thermos stat out and thought wait a second and I took the radiator cap off and YUP the rubber was all warn off so I went to the auto parts store paid $7 for a new cap and NEVER had another issue! Remember 3 shop including my friend all said it was the head and I see a lot of those posts on here I wonder how many just needed a radiator cap? I'm sure at least some. so don't be like me and leave it sitting for 6 months or call the junk man try a new cap and see what happens, can't hurt."
"I bought the van brand new for just under $20,000. The maintenance has been very inexpensive. I have gotten my money's worth. It has just under 200,000 miles and my mechanic says it could make it to 300,000.
For a van, it is fun to drive. It has the Mazda Zoom-Zoom. After years of kids, pets, camping gear, bicycles, and trips to Home Depot, the interior is still in good condition. No fabric tears, but some plastic breakage. Totally expected. I have noticed a drop in the MPG over the past two years, getting under 20 now.
I have owned a Honda, a Toyota, and a Nissan. I am a Mazda owner from here on because of the fun-to-value ratio.
I spend my driving time daydreaming of my next Mazda, the hatchback 3. A red one."
Pros: "Like to drive, good appearance, safety features"
Cons: "poor maintenance access around engine"

"2nd MPV, Owned 1st 13 yr, this one 12 year. Excellent all round vehicle. Good hauling capacity whether people or cargo. Fun to drive. Looks good even after 12 years. Good gas mileage 17.5-25 (18-27 when new) Maintenance costs not unreasonable. Some quirks in transmission shifting since new but have not caused problems in 170K miles. Would definitely buy again if Mazda would sell in U.S."
