"bought this little 626 back in 2001 and it is the car that won't die! We now have 299,000 miles on it and have never had to make a major repair. Still gets better than 31 mpg and the manual transmission is still as strong as ever! Replaced tie rods and cv boots, had a new clutch at around 240,000 miles but NEVER had a major problem. Paint faded badly at around 175,000 miles and the headliner is looking rough but cosmetic issues have been the only issues that we have had so far. I even bought another Mazda based on the great experience we have had with this one!"
Pros: "cheap, not too hard to find, reliable, everything!"
Cons: "the automatic transmission if you have one."

"I bought this car 4 years ago with about 132000 miles on it. I am a certified mechanic and knew it would be a good car. I paid $2000 for it and got my money’s worth several times over. I am squeezing nearly 40mpg out of it and currently have nearly 203000 miles on it. It runs and drives like new. If you come across one of these for sale I highly recommend buying it if it is a 5 speed. If it is automatic I would strongly suggest against it. This is a flawless car except for the automatic transmission. Mine is nearly 17 years old and I drive it nearly 180 miles a day. It has power everything and it all works. It even has a factory CD player and oscillating vents; they still work too. This car runs smooth, drives great, is comfortable to be in, and gets great gas millage. I love this car despite its slightly less than attractive appearance and will drive it until it dies; which I know will be a long time from now."
