The Town Car is the last of a dying breed. This full-sized, body-on-frame, V8-powered American luxury car that once populated the driveways of the well-to-do now serves primarily as the backbone of the stretch limo business and as transportation for an aging retired population. No longer capable of competing with BMW, Audi or Lexus (if it ever was), the Town Car serves its own unique customer base: Those who prefer their dashboards simple and straightforward and their rides pillow soft. Of course, the Town Car does have its selling points, like a powerful V8 engine and a trunk deep enough to swallow four golf bags. Then again, customers looking to save some money can find many of the Town Car's best attributes in the less-expensive Mercury Grand Marquis or Ford Crown Victoria.

"Reliable, Stylish. Dependable. Luxurious. A wonderful ride. I've owned 5 Towncars over the years and never had a problem with any of them. My father, sister and brother-in-law all drive them as well. The Towncar is the best American car on the road."

"Check the milage on the Towncar vs many other much smaller cars. On the highway I consistently get 26 to 27 mpg. That's at about 70mph. The transmission has what I call a glide mode. If you take your foot off the gas the car keeps on rolling at speed. Combined milage is about 18 mpg. Performance is fine No problem accelerating up steep grades . It passes other cars just quickly. Handling is good enough for me. Takes corners fine. Of course comfortable. Mechanical problems have been the air ride bags - had to replace them. And of course the window motors. Expect to replace those at some point. At 120,000, no major engine and trany work needed. Very reliable car in the 6 years we have owned it."

"I always buy used with about 15,000 miles on the Town Car. The price is half of new and the cars always look new. My 2007 is great, floats along and we are not tired when we get to FL. Any car that can stand limo duty in NY city was built be to last. 27 MPG for 2 tons of car is a plus. Ford should continue production. How smart is it to phase out a winner?"
