"We have owned this Navigator for only one year. We are the 2nd owners. Bought it with 68,000 miles. The previous owner took great care of this car. He just replaced the air suspension before he sold it. The cost was 1600.00 dollars and this is a common problem with the Navigator so we thought we should be trouble free for a long time. WRONG! a few months ago the air ride suspension stopped working and the Ford dealer could not find the problem so they replaced the Air compressor at a cost of 700.00. This did not fix the problem. Then they replaced all the fittings. That was 300 dollars and not sure yet what the labor will be. Then we picked the car up from shop after leaving it for 3 weeks and the engine started Knocking. Ford said it is some kind of pump they put on this engine to oil the timing chain. He sounded like this is a common thing with these engines and the cost will be a minimum of 3,000.00 dollars. I can buy a new engine for 3,200.00. As for the ride, our old Suburban rode a lot smoother then the air ride suspension of the Navigator. I am glad I did not spend the $60,000 to buy it new. Knowing what I know now I would never buy this car. The things that have gone bad are all extras that really did not even have to be added."

"I purchased this vehicle in 2007 and immediately fell in love with it. It was comfortable, took the road like a King. After 1 year, I had 2 ignition coils go out on me which, coicidentally, left me stranded infront of a Lincoln dealership. Come to find out that this is a common problem with Lincolns and Fords. Then, while I was on vacation the same year, my A/C compressor went out for the 1st time. That was 1600.00 to fix. 3 years later it broke again, along with another ignition coil. Then to put icing on the cake, The air shock system just died. All 4 shocks where on the ground, literally. I removed the air shocks and put on the conversion kit. It still had a nice ride but not like the air shocks. This vehicle is definitely high maintainence and was breaking my pockets. I would love to have another one only if they fix those issues with the ignition coils and air shocks going out."

"I first purchased a Navigator trading in a Towncar and Explorer. This is my 2nd Navigator and I purchased it new. I would purchase another one. It has been very comfortable and has taken me on back roads - that would be unpaved in the mountains. It has been very responsive in snow and i have only had to put chains on it once!"

"I was given this car by my parents in high school and i view it as a punishment. I get 4 miles to the gallon, it breaks down EVERY month. The cost to fix it is sky high and it doesn't drive well."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 145,000overall rating 9 of 10rating details
Pros: "Smooth driving, quiet, spacious and comfy"
Cons: "No sunglass holder, seat belt design not good"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9
"I have owned this car for 2 1/2 years and it has been extremely reliable. No major mechanical or electrical issues. Have had a blown fuse that affected the running boards but it was easily identified with the owners manual and I fixed it myself. Gas mileage is not great in this economy but for the car size and capacity 14 mpg is my avg. Only one complaint. The seat belt design is not good. You have to leave the door open to get to the belt to put it on. There is not enough space between the door and the seat to grab it."
