KBB Expert Review

KBB Editors' Overview

By Bob Nagy - Updated Date: 6/18/2014

The new-for-2015 Lincoln MKC is the division's first entry into the red-hot luxury compact crossover SUV segment. Sharing a platform with the Ford Escape, the 5-passenger MKC features unique interior/exterior styling as well as a wide spectrum of Lincoln-specific mechanical and feature upgrades that endow it with elevated levels of refinement and performance. Possessing a more youthful, contemporary character than any current Lincoln, the upstart MKC faces off against key SUV rivals like the Acura RDX, Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class. Available in Premiere, Select and Reserve trims, it offers buyers the choice of two EcoBoost engines and front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). Rounding out the formula, the MKC complements its comprehensive list of standards and options with a solid value story.

You'll Like This Car If...

If you want an upscale small crossover SUV that offers sophisticated style, great comfort, solid handling and a wide range of luxury features, the all-new Lincoln MKC may well be what you've been waiting for.

You May Not Like This Car If...

Buyers seeking class-leading rear-seat accommodations will be better served by an Acura RDX or Audi Q5 while those requiring an SUV with maximum cargo volume will find more in those two MKC rivals as well as in the BMW X3.

What's New for 2015

The 2015 Lincoln MKC is an all-new crossover SUV for this classic American prestige brand, and it brings Lincoln into the heart of the hottest model segment in today's automotive market.

Driving It Driving Impressions

Regardless of engine or drivetrain configuration, the Lincoln MKC feels like a capable and confident SUV, whether cruising down a freeway or carving though corners. Developed primarily for on-road running, the MKC boasts a wider track and a lower center of gravity than its Ford Escape cousin and adds to its surefooted character with unique suspension/steering calibrations. Front-wheel Torque Vectoring Control and standard 18-inch wheels and tires improve grip while curtailing body roll. The behind-the-wheel experience gets even better with the available Continuously Controlled Damping system (standard issue on all-wheel-drive models) which permits on-demand fine tuning of the chassis. Collectively, the Lincoln remix adds roughly 200 pounds to the MKC, with the 2.3-liter/AWD model tipping the scales at nearly 4,000 pounds. While that extra weight does take some edge off of acceleration, all versions of the MKC are more than capable of coping with all daily driving demands.

Favorite Features

CONTINUOUSLY CONTROLLED DAMPING SUSPENSION
A freestanding option across the MKC lineup and standard on all-wheel-drive models, the Continuously Controlled Damping system works with Lincoln Drive Control to allow the choice of Comfort, Normal and Sport shock absorber settings.

ACTIVE NOISE CONTROL
Standard on all MKC models, active noise control interfaces with the small SUV's audio system to bring a welcome measure of added serenity to its well-appointed passenger cabin and make every trip a bit more relaxed.
