"Bought this car off lease 8 years ago. It's really terrific. Ford's 4.6 motor is reliable and runs strong. Had to have the transmission replaced at 105k and it's needed a window motor and audio speaker. Everything else is normal maintenance. I'd buy another in a heartbeat! But as Lincoln does, they've discontinued this great model. Just like the other Lincoln favorites I've owned - Continental, Mark series coupes, and LS sedans..."

Pros: "they don't make the Aviator anymore."

Cons: "room in backseat"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 7

"really like this car. My only complaint is the space between front and back seat. It came with 3rd row seats, but I took those out on the day I got the car. I have had it from brand new, and have been very pleased with it."

Pros: "Great acceleration, fun ride, excellent utility."

Cons: "Changed a few rear tail light bulbs"

"Have owned this 2004 for nearly 11 years and it is a champ. Agree with one of the previous reviewers, why did they stop making these? All the great benefits of an Explorer with upgrades to the engine, trim and electronics. I would easily buy another one of these. Never any major problems."

Pros: "My opinion, best car I have ever owned."

Cons: "Premium gas and fuel mileage."

"I've had a lot of cars over the years, but this is the best ride I have ever had. The looks are great on the outside and interior. Yes, there have been some bad reviews that I have read, but in my opinion one of the best BIG SUV's on the market. Didn't want anything as large as a Navigator, but wanted the luxury. I just happen to luck out with this one. My car was totaled and I was in need. I had been looking at cars, but was in no hurry. After mine got totaled though, had to get on the ball. All controls are easy to access and yes, they do take awhile to get used to. Love the power of the V-8. You want to pass or just cruise at a good rate, this is the car."

Pros: "fast, comfy, stylish, heated and cooled seats"

Cons: "low mpg, 3rd row is not a split seat"

"I bought this vehicle when it was already 10 years old. I was really nervous at 1st considering some negative reviews, and I put about a $1000 into it right off the bat with a tune up and some minor things. I've had it now for about 9 months and I am truly happy with this vehicle. It is still a stylish suv and I get compliments on it all the time. It drives excellent and is comfy on long trips. It is well built and quite on the road - no rattles or annoying sounds. It is very fast when you hammer down, but you pay for it at the pump. I get anywher from 12mpg city to 20mpg hwy. If you can find one of these in good shape, and that's been well maintained I would buy it. Note: transmissions on these go out between a 100-120k. Luckily mine was replaced already and still under warranty. Also let a Ford dealer technician look it over before you buy it. They know these engines inside and out."

"In search of a replacement for our aging Ford Escape, I literally lucked into our 2004 Aviator. I was not exactly looking for one, to be honest. I was in the market for something used that was newer, preferably bigger, and definitely safer than what we had. We are new parents and I simply want my wife and little boy to be safe when traveling. I was going to test drive a different SUV when it was brought to my attention that if I could wait a few days perhaps I might like what they had coming in a little better than what I was currently looking at. That's how my first Lincoln came to me. Right time. Right vehicle. Right price. So I said I'll take it right now, sight unseen. And let me say this, the anticipation drove me nuts waiting for it to finally arrive on the lot. I passed on an 07 Grand Cherokee, 06 Escape, and 08 Jeep Liberty that were all priced higher, all with higher mileage. It was well worth the wait. It was well worth the price I paid. And with less than 100k on the odometer, it is in great shape for a ten year old vehicle. Needless to say, its also a huge step up in class from the 2001 Escape it replaced. We loved that little Escape and how she drove and performed on the highway and took to snowy roads like a champ. Its been less than a year since I brought it home so the jury is still out on how well it will get around with its AWD here in NE Pa. I'm not worried, though. Not having the ability to engage any kind of 4WD at will does have my wife a little concerned. Since I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, which has the full-time 4WD of its Quadra-Drive system, its been years since I've had to worry about whether or not I should put my truck in 4WD. I'm not saying I expect our Lincoln Aviator to mimic my Jeep when it comes to a foot of snow. But I do expect it to keep my wife and child safe and sound should they find themselves out and about caught in a snow storm. Speaking of my GC, it is a Limited, and as intended, is very nice inside with its heated leather seats, bells & whistles, and wood trim. Even though our 2 SUVs are roughly the same age with each built to be at or near the top-of-the-line for their respected brand, the Lincoln is simply in a different league when it comes to talking luxury. The Aviator drives and steers effortlessly as it glides over rough roadways. There's plenty of room even with a child's carseat strapped in the backseat. The 3rd row mostly stays down for extra room to transport everything we need for the 3 of us for our weekly camping trips or random outings with the baby. One minor downside is the requirement for 91 or better gasoline. Along with the lowly 13.5 MPG we average, I was well aware and accepting of the fact it was going to cost a bit more to drive and maintain this particular vehicle. I consider it a small price to pay for the peace of mind it gives me when I think about the safety it provides my family. The cold air that trickles across my back and down my crack on a 100 degree day has become one of my favorite things in life. It's been almost 25 years since I learned how to double shift while driving a 1960 International Harvester dumptruck as a pre-teen. I've loved driving ever since. Whether it be a car, lawn tractor, front end loader, dirt bike, it doesn't matter. I love to drive. Its a good thing, too. I commute over 60 miles round trip, 6 days a week. Somebody say road trip? As long as I can drive, sure. Without meaning to sound like I'm bragging and/or coming across like I'm a snooty, superficial person who overvalues material possessions, I am proud to own my Lincoln Aviator. I may have bought it used because frankly a new Lincoln is currently out of our price range. But the fact that I am able to purchase and maintain a well known and respected luxury brand vehicle to ensure the safety and comfort of my family, well, it makes me proud. I've never purchased something so nice by myself. I've owned nice things before. But this is just different."
