Recalibrate your image of Lexus. The 416-horsepower 2008 Lexus IS F, the fastest production Lexus ever, will be the first of many from the brand to compete with the BMW M series, Mercedes-AMG and aftermarket tuners. Coupled to the Lexus IS F's 5.0-liter V8 is an automatic transmission that upshifts in a race-car-like 0.1 second. Expect similar factory hot rods from Lexus: F-Sport accessories are already on sale. (An "F" surrounded by a circle is Lexus' internal symbol for a special project. Also, the logo is said to resemble Turn One at Fuji Speedway.) Lexus says that many IS F buyers will have owned Japanese performance cars such as the Mitsubishi Evo, Subaru WRX STi and Toyota Supra Turbo.

"I was worried about the smaller V6 engine when I bought this car, but it has plenty of pep... I'm doing 70-80 and don't even realize it. I've walked away and left the car running twice in parking lots because it runs so quiet (and thanks to the push start and not needing to grab for the keys). The salesman warned me that it happens to everyone at some point! Only con's on this car are that I wish it had a better trunk layout or more space or that the rear seats folded down and while the rims look really nice when they're clean, they're no fun to clean!!! Otherwise, this is a nice sporty and good handling car that gets about 28 to 29 MPH but another con is you have to run super unleaded (now costing over $3.80 per gallon). I'd still recommend it though. A nice perk is the A/C seats in the summer!"

"I've had this car for 3 years now, and I have yet had anyone's car compare to it. If they had heating seats, I've got cooling seats, if they had a 5 speaker sound system, I have a 7 speaker one. This list can go on and on, but really it's a reliable, clean looking car."

"1st Lexus and after shopping G35 and 3 Series etc. decided to come back to the IS250 AWD. Handles great! Don't think I'd be here if it wasn't for this vehicle and the handling experienced during a near head on collision while passing (legally) and someone turning straight into us from an off road while I was beside the 5th wheel we were passing. I locked up the vehicle and IT NEVER EVER FAULTERED OR SWEARVED. I was able to stay completely in control and pull in behind the 5th wheel just before hitting the truck. Had I been in my previous SUV, I'm sure the sudden braking and trying to get back in the lane would have caused the vehicle to swerve and lose control. I'll never doubt the safety system Lexus used and am glad it was there and worked like it was designed to do. The car gets looks everywhere we go. Black with polished alloy wheels. Absolutely love the car as do my 18 - 22 year old boys. They now beg to take my car where the SUV sat in the garage."
