Pros: "exactly what I want, great price, love to drive it"

Cons: "No ABS, no sunroof"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"Unfortunately Spectras are no longer made because I would trade for another white spectra in a minute- if it was in very good condition and had cloth seats and cruise control, a/c, and a sunroof, plus other amenities. I love my car and the only other reason I would trade it because of age."

Great car for this college student!

"I recently purchased a 2009 Kia Spectra EX (automatic) used, and it has been good to me so far. It has 78k miles on it and I can tell it has plenty of life left. I love that it is a relatively small car but still has a huge trunk and isn't too cramped. The Kia Spectra is a tad sluggish at times, but is actually peppy for a little 4 cylinder. I think that the styling of the car is nice - the chrome keeps it from looking too outdated. I get much better gas mileage than EPA. With about 65% city driving and 35% highway driving, I'm getting about 33 mpg. So impressed! Of course, the best part about the vehicle is that it isn't overly pricey, but still delivers performance and quality."

Pros: "Great value, reliable car"

Cons: "Quality and Driving dynamics could be better"

"I have owned my 2009 Kia Spectra for about two and a half years. The features are basic but most are of good quality. I like having all the options of AM/FM radio, CD, and I can hook up my phone through the AUX port. The car does not have power seats but they're so easy to adjust that I do not mind. It has power windows and locks which is wonderful. Thankfully I have never been in an accident, but one of the reasons I was drawn to the Kia Spectra is all of the safety features. It has plenty of airbags and good ratings. It has okay get-up-and-go when I need it to. Overdrive is activated by double tapping the accelerator. I wouldn't do that too often though as the car can sound like it's struggling when pushed for too long. The only real complaint is that I have cut my fingers on the inside door handles because the chrome layer is peeling off. I have to keep it trimmed and filed as it slowly peels. Regarding maintenance, I have only had to have routine service. There have been two small issues but I have not needed to act on those quite yet. The first is a tiny emissions leak. The second is a touchy cam shaft sensor. Once or twice a year my check engine light will come on and I just read it to be sure that it is not anything additional, and then turn it off. I was told by a KIA dealership that my emissions leak is too small to spend money on to fix it. I will eventually have to replace my cam shaft sensor and it could be pricey, but it has only bothered me twice in the past year and so far it has corrected itself. Overall I am very happy with the car. It fits my tight budget and my "beginner's" life style."

Pros: "gas mileage, great price, fun to drive, traction"

Cons: "small, low to ground, wind/road noise, electrical"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 8

"I initially bought this vehicle in 2007 when KIA was trying to reform their brand. This car was thousands cheaper than comparable US brands, at the time, which is the main reason I bought it. I was a new college student and needed to replace my S10 blazer since the transmission kept going out on me. Through the years with regular maintenance I have not had any mechanical issues with the vehicle. The cosmetics are beginning to deteriorate, and it's had it's number of dents and scrapes from sitting in an apartment parking lot. I had to upgrade the stereo and sound system after a few years since the speakers couldn't handle much above a whisper. Oh! it does have some electrical issues where the lights will stay on after the car has been turned off. So the automatic lights are faulty...just have to use the ol' manual method. Almost forgot about this little glitch. I always turn them off before I exit anyways. So far I've manage to put near 90k miles on this vehicle with no issues as the only owner. It's survived a few cross country trips N-->S not E-->W. It has survived Iowa winters and Texas summers and keeps on revving. As I said earlier the only issues it has are cosmetic due to external forces and many weather changes. Best vehicle I've owned thus far. Ready for something a little higher off the ground again. Please don't let em down Chevy Colorado =D"

Cons: "safety issues. clear coat scratches easily."

"My rating might be higher if there wasn't an issue with the passenger's side airbag system. If there is someone sitting in the seat, the airbag light should turn off, signalling that the vehicle is aware that someone is sitting in the seat. However there have been several times that, despite the passenger getting out and reseating themselves, and being over 140 lbs and 6 ft tall, that the light remains on. This is an issue that other owners have reported as well. People have been hurt in accidents because the passenger side airbag did not deploy during a head-on collision. One of the main reasons I chose kia was due to the safety rating."
