Pros: "great in snow w/snow tires, sturdy, reliable"

Cons: "transmission, comfort ride, temp control"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I love my Jeep. Purchased new 2004 and it's been reliable and well running due to good maintenance and has needed only standard types of repairs. The CD player failed a few years ago and we didn't fix it. Recently the transmission failed, and we decided to replace it along with new bushings and brakes (which were due) for approx $4000. The Jeep is running like a new car again. It isn't a fancy vehicle or particularly comfortable for trips over a few hours long, but it's wonderful for local travel and for adverse NYS weather. It's been such a great vehicle. Glad we could repair it back to good working order."

"110,000 miles and still purrs like a kitten. No major problems and only the fact that I am too old to work on it if something does happen is causing me to sell it. I have had 7 Grand Cherokee's in a row and this is the best of them!"

Summer day, with a little rain..

"Well, I bought my 2004 Jeep back in January 2015 and I must say, I am ABSOLUTELY pleased with my decision on getting my Jeep. I bought it with a little over 175k on the odometer, but after doing a lot of research, it looks like these Jeeps (with either the inline 6 or the V8) last a lot of owners well past 300k miles with proper maintenance. So knowing that, I went all in and made my purchase. The leather seats are in great condition, with just one slight crack on the drivers seat. The other seats have no significant cracks at all. Very impressive for a vehicle that was made 11 years ago. All of the electronics work great. From the windows, to the climate controls, on down to the stereo, EVERYTHING works like new. HOWEVER, it's the 4.7 V8, that is the real star of this show. When you step on the gas, you know right then and there that you have a abundance of torque, and that engine just goes, and goes, and goes. There is almost a effortless feel to the engine, when you are getting up to speed. Another thing of note, is the gas mileage on the 4.7 V8. It is great on gas, by V8 standards. So if you ARE in the market for one of these, try to find a JGC in great shape, with the 4.7 V8 engine. Trust me on this, you will be glad that you did. Also of note, there is the optional 4.7 V8 HO engine that has higher hp and greater torque, but they may be harder to come by. Now, for the problems I've had. I did preventive maintenance, by replacing my inner and outer tie rods. I took it to the local Jeep dealership, and was told I didn't need to get it fixed at the time. However, I told them to replace it any way. For me, that's just one less thing to worry about. Outside of that, I noticed I had a little water leaking from up under the dashboard, above the the passenger floor. Come to find out, the hose that is supposed to drain out the condensation build up from the A/C unit, had gotten clogged up, but that was a very quick fix, and I was on my way. So to sum it all up, if you are looking for a great SUV, then consider the JGC. You can't go wrong with it. And I believe you will really enjoy your ride if you do."

"with regular maintenance and the usual repairs to a 12 year old jeep I have no complaints. I just got an estimate to repair the original exhaust system. its' time to trade and upgrade a bit. this would be a great car for someone ... I have kept it clean on the inside and done my best for the outside. it's done everything expected of a Jeep Grand Cherokee !!"

"I bought this vehicle with 37K miles and it has hauled me then both of my daughters for the last 12 years. I now has 300K miles and I am getting ready to sell it to my brother. I easily see this going 400K miles. One taillight or the other has been going out for the last 100K miles and is irritating but this is the most comfortable vehicle I have owned. Also if you have kids, very safe and reliable."

"Extremely reliable and fun to drive, in-city and on highway. Will hate to part with it. Trouble-free and very low maintenance. Did all my own service on it, very easy to do."
