Pros: "Was as dependable as a vehicle can be"

Cons: "16mpg normal, 12mpg towing not great"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9

"has never broken down, never let me down. More than adequate power, including towing boats of 3500 lbs plus. Besides the steering gear that wore output shaft bushing which was replaced under extended warranty, had one rear axle shaft seal leak about 75000...otherwise problem free, enjoyable driving for 105K miles"

Pros: "Good for the first 100,000 miles, then junk"

Cons: "Everything goes wrong after 100K miles"

"I have the 4.7 liter V8 full time 4WD. The engine lost a valve seat on #2 cylinder and ruined the engine. I had to put a Jasper engine in it for $5,500 last year. I have heard the 6 cylinder engine runs like a champ, but if you are thinking of buying the V8, stay away. I also have a 2001 six cylinder and it works fine. I got this one at 48,000 and have to replace the heater core, all 4 electric window motors, the drivers seat broke, the tilt wheel cable broke, the front passenger door is falling off, the rear door lock broke and doesn't work, the alternator replaced, power steering pump replaced. The only thing that hasn't gone wrong is the transmission and 4WD. have fixed almost everything else. I would not buy another one."

"Purchased our jeep new in 1999. Sales manager had driven it so the jeep had 8300 miles on it. Jeep very comfortable and easily handled deep snow. Rear differential went out shortly after warranty expired. Dealer quoted $1,300 to repair. Dealer owner negotiated with Chrysler, so I ended up paying $200 instead. Two years later, the rear end went out again. This time the expense came out of my pocket. Other issues include electrical (interior lights automatically coming on and going off), ball joints and struts, numerous oil and power steering leaks, and the ever noticeable "ticking sound" which proved to be the lifters. A local, reputable shop quoted $800 to replace, Lifters are not that much; it's the difficulty with getting to the old lifters. I've had cheaper vehicles that have been much more reliable."

"I have had this jeep for a couple years now. I could not have asked for a better suv. I can drive knowing that me and my child are in good hands, even with such high mileage."
