2010 Jeep Commander

For 2010, Limited trims now have as standard a 5.7-liter V8, power rear liftgate and body-colored exterior mirrors. The Overland trim has been dropped from the Commander line up, as has the 4.7-liter V8 engine.

About Jeep Commander

Jeep purists never got over the loss of the original Cherokee, so it's no surprise Jeep's new Commander bears a striking resemblance to the former's beloved and boxy design. Unlike the old Cherokee, the Commander offers far better interior accommodations that include a third-row seat. The Commander is Jeep's largest SUV to date and, although it shares much of its chassis and suspension with the Grand Cherokee (as well as the availability of a HEMI V8 engine), the two will never be mistaken for each other. While the Commander doesn't offer the same interior space as a full-sized Chevrolet Tahoe or even Dodge Durango, it should suit most families looking for a workable combination of comfort, power and superior off-road ability.

"We purchased a 2006 Jeep Commander a year ago and I really love it! It is a smooth ride and a lot of interior room. I feel safe and best of all my kids love it too! The gas mileage averages about 19-21 on the highway, slightly lower if you drive in stop and go traffic. There is lots of storage and cubby space in the front and all the seats fold down with ease. The only downside to this vehicle is the theater style seating. The second row is higher than the first and the third row is even higher. The third row is NOT adult friendly because it has limited leg room."

"Wow - a lot of unjustified negative reviews out there, in my opinion. Bought mine used with 32k - now has 60k - ZERO problems...rides smooth, very roomy without being a boat on the road, excellent range of view, extremely comfortable, I'm 6'1" and I can fit in the third row, so it's not like other 3rd row vehicles where only a 6 year old child would fit. Looks nice. You can find used ones for very reasonable prices vs. competitive vehicles. Extended warranties through chrysler can be found on the web!"

"We have had the 2009 Jeep Commander for 11 months now and have accumulated 13,400 miles. So far, I am quite pleased with the truck. We bought it last March after my son totaled our much loved 2004 Land Rover Discovery. Since Land Rover no longer made the Discovery and we wanted to buy American, we chose the Commander. My only regret is that we did not get the 4.7 liter V8. The V6 is a good motor but for someone used to driving a V8, it just does not have that extra burst of power when you would like it. Fuel economy has been good - in the summer, we get 20 mpg on the highway with premium fuel - in the winter, that drops to between 17 and 18 mpg. Ride comfort is outstanding for an SUV and handling and braking are excellent. Our son goes to school 400 miles from home and we have made many trips to and from - the Jeep gets us there without any drama. The only real criticism I have is the inability to remove the third row of seats as one can in a Tahoe. Given the solid axle rear suspension, the seat assembly sits on top of the load floor and takes up valuable cargo space - day to day it is not a problem but when you are trying to carry as much as possible, the seat assembly gets in the way. Overall, I am very pleased with the Jeep Commander and would recommend it to anyone looking for a not quite full size SUV - you won't be disappointed."
