For 2012, the Jaguar XK series adds a new 550-horsepower XKR-S variant to the top of the roster. Changes to the base XK and sporty XKR include a restyled front end with revised headlights and LED running lights. Similarly, the interior receives a slight refresh, with upgraded materials and a rear backup camera as standard on every trim level.
For 2010, the Jaguar XK receives wide-ranging improvements including brand new engine choices, an adaptive suspension and subtle exterior tweaks. The XK also offers JaguarDrive Selector, previously introduced on the XF Sedan, a rotary transmission shift knob that rises from the center console on startup.
Ultimate Black Metallic paint, Front Park Control and power-folding side mirrors are now standard equipment, as are the previously-optional 525-watt Premium Surround Sound System, SIRIUS, USB and iPod connectivity and air-quality-sensing auto-recirculation climate control. New Satin American Walnut veneers are available, Alcon brakes now cost extra on re-trimmed Portfolio editions and a Dynamic Handling Package (suspension, brake and wheel upgrades) is now optional.
The previous generation XK was Jaguar's best-selling sports model ever. The challenge for the 2007 XK is to better that success while enhancing the image of the Jaguar brand and its less exotic sedans. That task gets tougher as the high-zoot sports car competition gets relentlessly better, but we believe the XK is up to it.
Jaguar's all-new, aluminum-bodied XK plays in an elite field of expensive sporting cars that blend the oft-competing virtues of pavement-ripping performance and senses-coddling luxury. Some, like the Porsche 911 Carrera and Dodge Viper, are mostly about performance. Others, like the Mercedes-Benz CL500, BMW 650i and Cadillac XLR, slide toward the other end of the scale. The Jaguar XK is a nicely executed marriage of both. While its 300-horsepower V8 is not as brutally powerful as some, its lightweight aluminum construction keeps it well in the performance hunt.
