"First of all KBB should have broken the review on the XK8/XKR into two sections. Pre / Post 2003. Pre 2003 Cars have a long list of failure by design problems in the 4.0 Engine which came straight from Ford with the Plastic Tensioners that fail and destroy the Engine, Plastic Water Pump, Throttle Body failures and Mercedes 5 Speed Solenoid Failures. 2003 to 2006 are totally different Bullet Proof designs. Add some R Performance Options like the 20" BBS wheels, Recaro Seating, and Big Cross Drilled Brembos and you will own the sexiest car on the planet!
My 04 XKR is going on 12 years old and has seen zero failures. She is 100 percent as it left the factory down to the battery, abeit some fresh tires. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
If your looking for one, pony up for the 4.2 Liter design and avoid a lot of potential expensive failures."
"I had a 2001 XK8 and always wanted the R eventually I got one. The XKR is way faster I bought had a ton of problems. I spent well over 9k to get it were it is now but it was worth every penny.The design of these cars are very exotic and unique they look much better in person and are big time head turners I get complements all the time. This car is under rated and I have not found one for the price this site suggests but the cost is worth it. I do all the work on my engine myself, if you cannot work on this car it may bankrupt you lol mechanics like to charge more for a exotic car like the XKR."
"I bought my 1998 black on black coupe last summer(2014) for just over 7K. It had 34K miles on it and I have put about 3,000 miles over the past year. I drove it from Philadelphia to Boston and back, and just tool around on weekends in good weather. The car runs very well and looks great. It is strong but not crazy fast like a Corvette. This car has the niceties from Jaguar and the electrical and other problems that they had were erased by Ford. These actually have pretty good reliability. Don't worry about the Nikosil cylinder lining, that was a problem with cars burning high sulfer fuel and sulfuric acid would form and destroy the engines. Not a problem in North America though, and Porsche now uses Nikosil in their cars. The timing chain tensioners are a problem, but the car will usually give you warning (rough running) before failing, but that is an expensive $3,500 repair. The downside to these cars is that few independents work on them, and the dealers are very expensive. But, it shares engine, transmission etc. with the Aston Martin DB-7 at a fraction of the price. How else can you get into an exotic at this price? There are many more convertibles than coupes, I prefer the looks of the coupe, and it's a bit quieter and has better torsional stiffness, but the convertible is world class also. Comfortable ride for hours on end. It sits low, so getting in and out can be a bit tough, especially for taller people."

"I always wanted a Corvette. When I retired I shopped around and looked a many of them -all of which struck me as the prices did not equal their value. I stumbled across a 2000 Jag XK8 Convertible and it was love at first sight and at good price.(Black w/ Tan Interior.)
It's a former FL Executive Corporate lease car turned in around 31,198 It was Purchased by a Lady,it turns out I knew, who put about 27,88 easy miles on it.
I have only put 1172 miles on it (since 7/16/13)and have loved every minute behind the wheel. It's a head turner and w/a shiftable auto trans and a Ford V-8 she can boogie!"
