Pros: "fun to drive, very comfortable, stylish"

Cons: "expensive to fix"

"I bought this car after finding it online for sale at a dealership in NC in December 2012. I was 19 at the time. I had saved-up, had a perfect driving record, had a passion for large plush-riding cars, and wanted to get something nice. I paid cash in-part and received financing from my bank in-part while still getting it at a year-end deal (a very good deal). So, let me give the bad news first: in the past 3 years, I've had the front air suspension fail, the rear control arms became worn beyond acceptable VA inspection, and the alternator failed. The first two problems mentioned were very expensive, and, very thankfully, my parents and grandparents helped me with the repair. The air suspension was $1,100 and the control arms were $1,400. When the alternator came due, I bought one from a junkyard for $45 on eBay and paid a local shop to install it, coming to $250. With that said, I was lucky, but this is not a car for someone my age, as much as I loved and continue to love it. The good: I bought it with 68,000 miles in 12/12, now it has almost 150k as of 12/15. I've driven it a lot, I graduated college (bought it when I was a sophomore), and am now a law student in SC. I have driven it back and forth from SC to VA several times now at highway speeds with no problems (knock on the real wood trim inside the cabin). The problems I had occurred within the early time of my ownership, but I have enjoyed it for well over a year and a half with absolutely no issues. At almost 150k, she rolls down the road at 75mph like you're driving on raw dough. It's not a bouncing/wavy Lincoln or Cadillac, it handles dibs and bumps with ease. Oh, and even with me being 22 years old, insurance (if you have a flawless record) is quite reasonable, though it has a V8, it's a large sedan. The nav system has (not the screen and all its functions) has since failed, but who uses the car system with phones nowadays anyway. I was so excited about the duel DVD system on the rear headrests, but in these 3 years, they've probably been used 3 times (still work though). In fact, the car has every option offered except for the adaptive cruise control. It was quite the car for a college student (that I bought myself), and still is in early law school. In college, my friends named it "Sophia," after the grandmother from The Golden Girls (long story). Anyway, it's a car that I have many memories with and enjoy it everyday; on the bad, it's a gas guzzler and it can be pricey to fix. It's all about what your priorities are. If you want a stylish car that'll make you smile (apx) 363 days out of the year, this is the car for you."

Pros: "My second XJ8, so obviously I have loved the Jag."

Cons: "Too low to ground. Grunt!"

"I have loved driving this car for the past 5 years. It is a real beauty -- classic Jaguar style in British Racing Green. I still get stopped by people commenting on its beauty. It responds wonderfully -- power when you need it with flawless shifting of gears. Very comfortable ride. Handles incredibly well. What's not to love? It sits too low for a senior citizen like me . Entering -- and especially exiting -- is difficult. And on a highway surrounded by trucks and SUVs, it's difficult to see where you are going. So, unfortunately I'm bidding farewell for an SUV that I hope will be easier to get into and out of and give me better visibility. But I have loved, loved, loved this car!"

"I bought this 2004 XJR on Nov 2014. It drove fine for about 3 months and ever since then I had nightmare problems with the suspension and all kind of lights going on. I put over $2K on it in the last year and had it at the Mechanic's garage for over 3 months. DONT BUY IT!"

Pros: "Great Value"

Cons: "Didn't come with CD Changer or Chrome wheels."

"I have owned my Super V8 for about 5 years, and it is the best car I have ever owned. It has been very reliable, with only a couple of minor repairs needed (and they were covered by my Certified Pre-Owned Warranty). It accelerates like a rocket, (it's hard NOT to spin the tires), it handles corners well, and will hit 150 mph without breaking a sweat. Jag re-sale prices tend to be lower than other luxury brands, which is great if you are buying one."

Pros: "Best luxury value ever. Grace. Space. Pace."

Cons: "Service costs on par with other luxury brands."

"So, I just bought my second XJ8, a 2004 with 28,000 original miles (not bad for a 10 year old car). I had one previously that was a dream and just had to get my hands on another low miles beauty. Now, before you buy know that the car comes in basically four models, the XJ8, XJ8L, XJ8 Vanden Plas, and XJR (turbo). The XJ8L came out in 2005 and it along with the Vanden Plas is 5 inches longer. I own the 2004 XJ8 with the 200" length. Any basic XJ comes with so many convenience/luxury options it should please you to no end. If you want to upgrade you can get upgraded sound with CD stacker, heated seats, Xenon headlights, and 18 or 19 inch factory wheels. Oh, and they also made a DVD player with screens in the front seat headrests. Truthfully, ANY configuration will delight you. Check out service intervals to get an idea of maintenance costs...basically all you do is change the oil, etc. until around 100k miles when you're going to spend appx. $2000 at an independent repair shop for a big service job (much more at a Jaguar dealer!). So beware, 100,000 miles is a big deal for service expense. For economy you will get appx. 27 mpg in highway driving...I just drove a 1000 mile trip and mileage was 27.2 at 73 mph. Now here's a BIG important tip: When you buy one of these cars you should have the tranmission re-programmed so it will adjust to your driving style and preferences. It will cost about $300 to get this done but it's the best $300 you will spend to get full enjoyment from the car. Thing is, when you buy one used it's got the previous owner's settings and to compare it would be like buying an adult dog and having to retrain it to mind your commands. So go ahead and reprogram the transmission. All in all, you can buy a really nice used XJ8 for about 20% of what it cost new and they are such beautiful autos (Road and Track called it the most beautiful sedan in the world) that you will never tire of its looks and the compliments you WILL get almost every time you gas up or show up somewhere. These cars are at the bottom of their depreciation cycle and based on their reliability, looks, and performance they are probably the BEST value in a used luxury car anywhere on the planet. Be thankful you live in the good old USA and can afford to pamper yourself in the British luxury only Jaguar can offer. And one final thought...don't you think a snarling wild jungle cat on the hood is soooo much hotter than a peace sign? Hope this info helps..."
