Pros: "Everything - it's a work of art inside and outside"

Cons: "Poor leg room and cup holder is poorly designed"

"Overall I have very few bad things to say about this vehicle. I recently purchased this car from a relative, who purchased it in 2003 with just over 68,000 miles on it and put about 2,000 miles on it in 13 years! The interior and exterior of this car are simply beautiful. Although the 6 CD changer is in the trunk, I found it created no problem when driving it across country. The paint job and exterior of the car are in perfect condition, with no rust and a high quality paint job that will last for decades. My only complaint is that I'm tall with long legs, and this car is not made for long legged people. Otherwise, it's a thing of beauty and so well made it will last for another few decades."

Pros: "Looks great, drives better than a 328 BMW"

Cons: "poor gas mileage"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 8

"Drives like a dream. Is a solid heavy car. It has a Ford engine and still goes 0-60 in 20 seconds. (Ford owned Jaguar in 1996)The interior is in beautiful shape. It's been repainted once. I'm a little old lady in tennis shoes and I've owned the car for 13 years. I'm the second owner. It has been well maintained. Has all new tires. An amazing price for the quality. It's only negative is it gets only 15-16 miles to the gallon. It's Jaguar silver/blue."

Pros: "Looks great, handles beautifully, very reliable"

Cons: "Minor electronics Jaguar seems unable to correct"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I bought my 1996 Jaguar XJ6 in 2001; it had 50000 miles then and now has 328000. It runs perfectly and has failed to start only once (when I left the lights on all day). Even though we live at the end of a mile-long dirt/gravel road, my mechanic says I have the cleanest oil of any car he works on. Other than routine maintenance like brake pads etc., I have had to do almost no repairs at all. One problem: the sunroof stopped working quite a while ago; had I known at the time I was going to keep the car this long, I would have replaced the sunroof. I average about 22 mpg. This is by far the best, most beautiful, and most reliable car I have ever owned."

"Front seats have cracking leather; front flooring needs carpeting; interior wood veneer chipped; rear drivers side window shattered but can work with buyer to replace. Exterior: blue, small rust spots. Engine is mint condition but needs air conditioning work. Easy fixes for a collector."

Pros: "Styling. Cheap to own. The compliments you get."

Cons: "Headliner sags. Digital display fails."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I have owned a 1995 XJ6 and a 1997 XJ6 Vanden Plas and I'm now buying another 1997 VP in a color I've not owned previously. Let me say, these are the BEST cars Jaguar has ever made. Period. The in-line six cylinder engine is one of the best automotive power plants ever made by any manufacturer. It will easily run 200k miles without problems (as long as you do regular maintenance). These cars drive silky smooth, they are all the power you could want, and for a European luxury brand, are surprisingly inexpensive to maintain or repair. Prices have stabilized and you can drive a nice clean XJ6 for years and not lose any money on depreciation...even a Toyota Prius will depreciate more than one of these cars. Now, as for styling. The 1995-1997 XJ's are as Road and Track put it, "The most beautiful four door sedans ever created." Pull into the gas station and you'll get compliments almost every visit. The styling is timeless and sadly of another era when form meant more than function. Geoff Lawson, the designer of these cars has passed on, but his work lives in the beautiful sculpture that is an XJ6. Ok, so what's not to like about these cars? Well, here are a few (and only) shortfalls I have found in owning two. The rear headliner tends to sag over time. The readout on the clock will fail after time. And after 60k miles, I had to replace the front suspension bushings ($250) on my Vanden Plas. Other than that, NO problems at all. The father of the owner of my service facility has driven his XJ6 over 200k miles with no major issues. Try doing that in a BMW or Mercedes (not to mention they don't drive/handle anything like an XJ). So my advice to you is to search through the Auto Trader ads and find a 95-97 XJ with under 50k miles (yes, they are out there) and latch onto it. You'll love looking at it. You'll love the way it drives. You'll love the low cost of ownership. And someday when you do finally decide to sell it, you will love the fact that you'll get most, if not all, of your original purchase price back. What car can give you more than that? Oh, and one more detail. A silver cat on your hood is so much sexier than a peace symbol, don't you think?"
