Pros: "fun to drive; great gas mileage for a V8"

Cons: "parts and repairs can be pricey ; no off-roading"

"I have owned this car for the past 8 years and can't say enough good things about it. It continues to meet my every expectation for reliability and driving comfort. I continue to get compliments on its color, sleek lines and comfortable ride. It has become a real "babe" magnet in my retirement years and I'm enjoying the attention."

East Texas Jag!

"After hearing negative reliability reports on Jaguars for years, I decided if I was going to own one before it was too late, I had better get with it! Simply stated, this is the most "fun to drive" auto I have ever owned and after 60 years of driving I have owned quite a few! Yes, there have been a few repairs but then all cars have to have repairs from time to time! Other than normal maintenance repairs, batteries, tires, etc. the only major repair has been an air conditioning compressor and believe an old man, Fords, Chevys, Toyotas, Hondas and even Corvettes have to have compressor replacements also! This is an "attention getter" everywhere I drive it! Great styling and looks that do not go out of style! My only regret is waiting so late in life to enjoy it! Don't be "put off" in purchasing a Jaguar if you are inclined to do so! A lot of the negative reports might be coming from people that could not afford to own and operate one in the first place!"

Cons: "No long term experience to find a con. Weird keys?"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I have not owned this vehicle for long enough to know if it's as reliable as a $5 toaster, but I live in Austin and brought it home from Dallas, and I'm going to tell you that those were the best four hours of driving a car I've ever had in my life. The ride is superbly clean, and everything about the handling and operation of the vehicle is beyond anything I've ever driven before (which admittedly is restricted to somewhat bargain vehicles, and surprisingly I found this Jaguar in that category). The biggest problem that I've had with it so far has been keeping the thing under 90MPH, because with even the very slightest touch of the gas, you're doing more than 80MPH, and you're going to want more than a slight touch."

Pros: "Value - Ride quality - Handling - Power - Beauty"

Cons: "I'd take 50 more HP - but 390 was great in 05"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"Have had 4 jags - 3 "R" models. Had an '03 STR that I purchased new -traded for a used 2005 model in 2009 since the 2005 model had only 12,500 miles. Great paint - wonderful interior - handles great - quite powerful. Love the ride - wonderful road car. Past reputation for poor quality should be put to rest, as plants were modernized and production quality improved a great deal under Ford's ownership and with Ford's money. TaTa is now reaping the benefit and the cars are equal to anything on the road - great values. (Cars remain British - constructed in Britain - designed in Britain). Ride is very comfortable. Steering is superb. Brakes are fantasitic (Brembo). Supercharged. Two intercoolers (actually there is a 3rd). Just a joy to take out and drive. I will keep this car for a very long time."

Pros: "looks beautiful"

Cons: "Mechanically they suck!"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 4

"This 2005 Jaguar S type, although it shows beautifully is definitely not worth your money. Although mine only has less than 68,000 miles, already it needs a new transmission. Same issue I had with a previous Jaguar I owned. Also the way the car handles is not that great. As a Mercedes Benz owner as well, I wish Jaguar could take some tips and make their cars handle like a Mercedes!"
